Week 8 Takeaways
WAIVER WIRE TARGETS
This week’s waiver wire targets are listed by position, in order of priority.
LB Shemar James, Dallas Cowboys
James made the waiver wire list last week, though I had some hesitation about his value given whether he’d keep the green dot as DeMarvion Overshown ramped up. However, for the second week in a row, James kept the dot and played a near-every-down role, making him a target in a wider range of IDP formats.
LB CJ Allen, Indianapolis Colts
With Allen finally getting a starter’s workload and delivering on his opportunities, it may be time for IDP managers in deeper leagues to trust him in lineups. He can be added in those deeper redraft formats where available.
LB Derrick Barnes, Detroit Lions
With Jack Campbell and Jimmy Rolder both injured, the team may have to lean more on Barnes for playing time and should be close to an every-down role. Barnes hasn’t been the most effective IDP outside of the first few weeks of the season, but an increased role makes him relevant for now.
DT Adetomiwa Adebawore, Indianapolis Colts
With DeForest Buckner traded, Adebawore’s workload nearly doubled this week, and after a great Week 7 performance, there’s reason to believe he can at least be a depth option in DT-required formats.
S Harrison Smith, Minnesota Vikings
While Smith and Theo Jackson have been sharing snaps this season, Jackson suffered an injury and is at risk of missing time. This allowed Smith to play a full-time role this week, and he should be a solid IDP option for non-shallow formats.
S Chuck Clark, Detroit Lions
With Brian Branch injured and likely to miss a week with a concussion, Clark should be back to 100% of snaps as a usable IDP option in non-shallow formats.
S Rayuan Lane, Jacksonville Jaguars
With the Jaguars banged up in the secondary, missing both Antonio Johnson and Eric Murray at the moment, Lane becomes a deep-league option with a shot at an every-down role. Lane came away with a pick-six in this game, though we’re not expecting that level of production again, just more usable snaps for deep formats, assuming Johnson/Murray miss more time.
CB Christian Roland-Wallace, Kansas City Chiefs
With L’Jarius Sneed on IR, Roland-Wallace has taken over the primary slot-defender role in Steve Spagnuolo’s defense, making him a solid, matchup-dependent option to consider in CB-required formats.
