Johny The Greek's Cornerback Corner: Week 18
What are the best CB options for IDP fantasy football leagues in Week 18?
Welcome back to the Cornerback Corner! As is tradition, we’ll start with transparency and get right into this week’s calls.
Last week, I made 90 calls for leagues of all shapes and sizes. Of those 90 calls, 13 were declared inactive or were injured during play, which caused them to miss their projection (early in the game). Subtracting those players, we’re left with 77 “adjusted” calls.
Of those, 59 were correct (matched, beat, or were within a slim margin of their projection on Yahoo and MFL), and 18 were incorrect (didn’t match or beat projection and weren’t even close), giving us 76% accuracy for Week 17.
Of those 59 correct calls, 25 were “massive hits” (doubled, tripled, or more, their projection), giving us a 42% massive hit rate on correct calls for Week 17.
We are 75% accurate overall for the season, with 41% of all correct calls ending up as “massive hits.”
Week 1: 78% accuracy, 34% massive hit rate
Week 2: 71% accuracy, 43% massive hit rate
Week 3: 76% accuracy, 50% massive hit rate
Week 4: 66% accuracy, 53% massive hit rate
Week 5: 89% accuracy, 40% massive hit rate
Week 6: 80% accuracy, 40% massive hit rate
Week 7: 70% accuracy, 52% massive hit rate
Week 8: 81% accuracy, 43% massive hit rate
Week 9: 72% accuracy, 34% massive hit rate
Week 10: 76% accuracy, 23% massive hit rate
Week 11: 70% accuracy, 39% massive hit rate
Week 12: 83% accuracy, 31% massive hit rate
Week 13: 71% accuracy, 46% massive hit rate
Week 14: 70% accuracy, 40% massive hit rate
Week 15: 74% accuracy, 50% massive hit rate
Week 16: 77% accuracy, 45% massive hit rate
Week 17: 76% accuracy, 42% massive hit rate
Please see THIS or THIS if you need a primer in cornerback streaming or what’s being discussed in this article (for new readers).
When I list the corners each week, it’s always STARTER/BACKUP/BACKUP in “depth chart/what we’ve seen” order if we’re dealing with an injured cornerback.
Keep an eye on the weather this week and throughout the fantasy playoffs. If you’re debating between two corners and one of them is playing in a snowstorm, then that factor will decide for you.
Use the playoff picture as your roadmap this week. Your best options are any players on teams that we know are still alive. Many teams will sit starters if their playoff seed is locked in or if they’re out of it and those options are beaten up. Use as many corners as possible that you KNOW will be playing this week.
Here is a quick cheat sheet for which teams are more likely than others to rest their starters this week. Credit to @Justinfreeman18 on Twitter for the graphic!
With that being said, I can’t guarantee we’ll actually get the corners we’ve been relying on for the vast majority of this season. I’ll put out as much information as possible but there’s a reason no one likes Week 18 title games, this is going to be exceedingly difficult to even guess who will actually be playing this week.
Good luck my friends, go get those titles!
49ers at Cardinals
Outlook: The early line for this divisional showdown sits at 43 points with San Francisco favored by a field goal. San Francisco is a top-ten team for passing yards per game while Arizona is among the middle of the pack. San Francisco is among the middle of the pack for wide receiver targets while Arizona is third worst overall for this ranking. It will be “deeper leagues only” for our 49ers corners and “medium to deeper leagues” for our Arizona options. Demote all Arizona corners to “deeper leagues only” if Purdy can’t play this week.
San Francisco 49ers
Chavarious Ward (CB): Ward was inactive last week but typically plays every snap when active, he would be SOLID if he can play this week.
Deommodore Lenoir (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Renardo Green (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Isaac Yiadom (CB): SIT, only has value if Ward is inactive and this isn’t a matchup we need to chase against the run-first Cardinals.
Arizona Cardinals
Starling Thomas (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 54% of snaps last week and typically plays the least of all Arizona corners week to week.
Garrett Williams (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 77% of snaps last week.
Sean Murphy Bunting (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he was down to just 49% of snaps last week as it appears that Arizona wants to give Max Melton a look before next season.
Max Melton (CB): SOLID, he shot up to 96% of snaps last week. It looks like Arizona wants to get some tape on him before heading into next season.
Panthers at Falcons
Outlook: The early total for this NFC South matchup sits at 45.5 points with Atlanta favored by a touchdown. Carolina is the third-worst team in the league for passing yards per game while Atlanta is still within the top ten. Both teams are within the top third of the league for targeting their wide receivers. We can fire up our normal options in medium to deeper leagues for this one.
Carolina Panthers
Mike Jackson (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Jaycee Horn (CB): SOLID, if healthy, he was inactive last week with a hip injury. He typically plays every snap when healthy.
Caleb Farley (CB): SIT, while he did play 100% of snaps last week for the injured Jaycee Horn, it was the first time we’ve seen it this season. It’s not something we can trust for a title game.
Dane Jackson (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 64% of snaps last week and with Chau Smith-Wade heading to IR recently he should be safe for this sort of role/playing time for Week 18.
Atlanta Falcons
AJ Terrell (CB): SOLID, he played 98% of snaps last week.
Mike Hughes (CB): SOLID, he played 98% of snaps last week.
Dee Alford (CB): SOLID, he played 87% of snaps last week. Deeper leagues only, he typically plays closer to 70% of snaps each week.
Browns at Ravens
Outlook: The early total for this AFC North showdown is 44.5 points with Baltimore favored by just under a touchdown. Baltimore is the 4th best passing attack in the league while Cleveland is dead on arrival with DTR under center, and an excellent opponent for our Baltimore corners if Winston is under center.
Baltimore targets their wide receivers sparingly, just within the worst third of the league. It will be “deeper leagues only” for our Cleveland corners this week. And our Baltimore corners depend completely on who is under center for Cleveland this week.
Cleveland Browns
Denzel Ward (CB): SOLID, if healthy, he played 52% of snaps last week and then exited with a shoulder injury.
Martin Emerson (CB): SOLID, he played 95% of snaps last week.
Cameron Mitchell (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 58% of snaps last week.
All others (CB): Ward will probably be inactive this week with a shoulder injury, there was no direct replacement that I saw. If Ward can’t go then just skip it and look elsewhere.
Baltimore Ravens
Ar’Darius Washington (CB/S): SOLID, he played 89% of snaps last week as a starting safety incorrectly designated a cornerback in Yahoo and perhaps elsewhere.
Marlon Humphrey (CB): SOLID, he played 89% of snaps last week and then sat due to the blowout.
Brandon Stephens (CB): SOLID, he played 89% of snaps last week and then sat.
Nate Wiggins (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 82% of snaps last week and typically plays the least of the Baltimore corners week to week.
Commanders at Cowboys
Outlook: The early total for this NFC East matchup is 46.5 points with Dallas favored by 5 points. Dallas is within the top third of the league for passing offense while Washington is among the middle of the pack. Dallas targets their wide receivers a ton but that was mostly CeeDee Lamb powered.
Washington is among the middle of the pack for wide receiver targets. We can fire up our normal corners in medium to deeper leagues here and be looking good, this would have been an ideal matchup for our Washington corners with Lamb playing but that ship has sailed so we’ll demote them a bit.
Washington Commanders
Quan Martin (CB/S): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week as a starting safety incorrectly designated a cornerback in Yahoo and perhaps elsewhere.
Mike Sainristil (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Marshon Lattimore (CB): SOLID, if healthy, he was inactive last week with a hamstring injury.
Noah Igbinoghene (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Benjamin St Juste/Michael Davis/All others (CB): SIT, while Michael Davis did see a legitimate role last week, he was picked on often and was a glaring weakness in this secondary. If Lattimore is inactive again this week it would be insane for Washington to roll out Davis again so we’ll skip it entirely. St Juste didn’t even play 25% of snaps last week so he’s a SIT as well.
Dallas Cowboys
Jourdan Lewis (CB): SOLID, he played 95% of snaps last week.
DaRon Bland (CB): SOLID, he played 98% of snaps last week.
All others (CB): SIT, Amani Oruwariye was pretty well cemented as the third corner here in Dallas but was placed on IR last week. I have no earthly clue who they’ll roll out beyond Bland and Lewis this week.
Chiefs at Broncos
Outlook: The early total for this one sits at 42.5 points with Kansas City favored by 4 points. Kansas City is within the top third of the league for passing yards per game while Denver is among the middle of the pack. Denver targets their wide receivers within the top ten while Kansas City is within the worst third of the league for this ranking.
We can fire up our Kansas City corners in a pretty solid, close to ideal, matchup and our Denver options will be “deeper leagues only” (especially if we’re getting backups, which is what it looks like we’re getting).
Kansas City Chiefs
Trent McDuffie (CB): SOLID, if he even plays, he played 85% of snaps last week and then sat due to the blowout.
Joshua Williams (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 55% of snaps last week.
Nazeeh Johnson (CB): SIT, he only played 45% of snaps last week and was displaced by Williams for playing time earlier this season.
Chammari Conner/Chris Roland-Wallace (CB): Conner was inactive last week with a concussion, he would be SOLID if he could play this week. Roland-Wallace was his replacement and played 67% of snaps. We’ve only seen it once so we’ll SIT Roland-Wallace even if Conner is inactive again.
Denver Broncos
Riley Moss (CB): SOLID, but risky, he had a huge game last week and played 89% of snaps but was picked on and gave up multiple huge plays to Tee Higgins. They could just as easily go with Kris Abrams-Draine this week and Moss doesn’t play at all. I would only do this if you need a homerun, he could have another monster week or his 32.2 PFF grade from last week could exile him to the bench.
Patrick Surtain (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
JaQuan McMillian (CB): SOLID, he played 80% of snaps last week.
Vikings at Lions
Outlook: The early total for this spectacular matchup sits at 47 points with Detroit favored by 5 points, at home and indoors. Both teams are within the top ten for passing yards per game. Both teams are among the middle of the pack for wide receiver targets. This game will very likely feature all the normal starters and is a great setup for a shootout across the board.
This is a matchup I would target if you need any streamers this week. We can fire up everyone with a pulse. (Demote and abandon ship accordingly if we learn that either or both teams end up sitting starters, but that doesn’t look likely at all).
Minnesota Vikings
Byron Murphy (CB): IDEAL, he played 100% of snaps last week and is the cornerback two overall in many of my leagues. We dance with the one we brought!
Stephon Gilmore (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Shaq Griffin (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 65% of snaps last week.
Josh Metellus (CB/S): SOLID, he played 76% of snaps last week and is designated a corner in Yahoo and perhaps elsewhere.
Detroit Lions
Brian Branch (CB/S): IDEAL, he played 98% of snaps last week.
Terrion Arnold (CB): SOLID, he played 91% of snaps last week.
Amik Robertson (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week and has been the Carlton Davis replacement for a couple of weeks now.
Bears at Packers
Outlook: The early total for this NFC North showdown sits at 46 points with Green Bay favored by a field goal. Green Bay is within the top third of the league for passing yards per game while Chicago is within the worst third of the league for this ranking. Chicago is a top-ten team for wide receiver targets while Green Bay is among the middle of the pack. We can fire up our normal corners here in medium to deeper leagues and be looking good.
Chicago Bears
Tyrique Stevenson (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Kyler Gordon (CB): SOLID, he played 90% of snaps last week.
Jaylon Johnson (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Green Bay Packers
Jaire Alexander (CB): SOLID, if healthy, he was inactive again last week with a knee injury but would play every snap if he can go this week.
Keisean Nixon (CB): IDEAL, he played 100% of snaps last week and has been on a heater since Week 12.
Carrington Valentine (CB): SOLID, only if Jaire is inactive again, otherwise SIT. He played 100% of snaps last week as the Jaire replacement.
Eric Stokes (CB): SIT, he only played 47% of snaps last week.
Jaguars at Colts
Outlook: The early total for this game is 46.5 points with Indy favored by just about a field goal. Both teams are within the worst third of the league for passing yards per game. Indy is within the top third of the league for wide receiver targets but we know that doesn’t matter if Richardson is under center (he completes fewer than 12 passes per game), it will be “deeper leagues only” for our Jacksonville corners if he’s under center, promote to “medium to deeper leagues” if Flacco gets the start.
And for the reverse, it will be “deeper leagues only” against this Jacksonville passing attack that’s mediocre at best and is within the middle of the pack for wide receiver targets and is marching out a backup quarterback once more this week.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Tyson Campbell (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Darnell Savage (CB/S): SOLID, if healthy, he was inactive last week with a concussion. He typically plays every snap and is designated a cornerback in Yahoo and perhaps elsewhere.
All others (CB): SIT, we haven’t gotten the “same corners” for a two-game span in weeks now, this secondary is a dumpster fire.
Indianapolis Colts
Kenny Moore (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Jaylon Jones (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Samuel Womack (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 68% of snaps last week.
Seahawks at Rams
Outlook: The early total for this NFC West matchup is 47 points with Los Angeles favored by almost a full touchdown. Both teams are within the top ten for passing yards per game. Both teams are within the top ten for wide receiver targets. This is a perfect matchup on paper but both teams are also coming off recent stinkers with their respective passing games.
We can fire up everyone with a pulse in this ideal (on paper) matchup and hope we get the passing offenses from these respective teams that we saw all season and not the ones we saw last week.
Seattle Seahawks
Coby Bryant (CB/S): IDEAL, he played 100% of snaps last week as a starting safety incorrectly designated a cornerback in Yahoo and perhaps elsewhere.
Devon Witherspoon (CB): IDEAL, he played 100% of snaps last week and delivered a game for the ages for those of us in Week 17 title games.
Tariq Woolen (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Josh Jobe (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 57% of snaps last week.
Los Angeles Rams
Darious Williams (CB): IDEAL, he played 97% of snaps last week.
Akhello Witherspoon (CB): SOLID, he played 97% of snaps last week.
Cobie Durant (CB): SIT, he did not play last week and was displaced by Witherspoon a couple of weeks ago.
Chargers at Raiders
Outlook: The early total for this showdown at the Death Star is 43.5 points with Los Angeles favored by 1 point. Both teams are among the middle of the pack for passing yards per game. Both teams are within the worst third of the league for targeting their wide receivers. It will be “deeper leagues only” across the board for this one.
Los Angeles Chargers
Elijah Molden (CB): SIT/blast out the airlock. He broke his shin last week and is done for the season.
Kristian Fulton (CB): SOLID, he played 75% of snaps and then sat due to the blowout last week. He typically plays every snap in a closer game.
Tarheeb Still (CB): SOLID, he played 85% of snaps and then sat due to the blowout.
Cam Hart/Ja’Sir Taylor (CB): SIT, one of these two players will replace Molden in all likelihood. I just don’t know which one it will be, and they’re playing the Raiders with a backup quarterback, not the 1981 Los Angeles Chargers. We can skip it.
Las Vegas Raiders
Nate Hobbs (CB): SOLID, he played 80% of snaps in his first game back since Week 9 (he played a few snaps in Week 15 then reinjured himself). He should play even more this week and he’s always a great option even in a less-than-ideal matchup.
DeCamerion Richardson (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Jack Jones (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Darnay Holmes (CB): SIT, he did not play at all with Hobbs back in the lineup.
Bills at Patriots
Outlook: The early total for this showdown at Foxborough sits at 44.5 points with Buffalo favored by a field goal. Buffalo is a top-ten team for passing yards per game while New England is dead last in this ranking. Both teams target their wide receivers within the worst third of the league. It’s definitely “deeper leagues only” for our Buffalo options, “medium to deeper leagues” for our New England corners sounds about right for the other end of this equation.
Buffalo may not need to play their starters at all this week and it’s the Patriots with a rookie quarterback not the second coming of the greatest show on turf. I’d look elsewhere for a better matchup, we may not get these Bills corners much or at all this week.
Buffalo Bills
Taron Johnson (CB): SOLID, he played 60% of snaps and then sat due to the blowout last week. He typically plays every snap in a closer game.
Rasul Douglas (CB): SOLID, he played 63% of snaps and then sat due to the blowout.
Christian Benford (CB): SOLID, he played 63% of snaps and then sat last week.
New England Patriots
Christian Gonzalez (CB): SOLID, if healthy, he picked up a concussion after just 30% of snaps last week. He’ll probably be inactive this week.
Marcus Jones (CB): SIT/blast out the airlock, he was moved to IR last week.
Jonathan Jones (CB): SOLID, he played 58% of snaps last week and then sat due to the blowout.
Alex Austin (CB): SOLID, with Jones on IR and Gonzalez concussed we saw Austin play 92% of snaps last week and we’ve seen that before. He should have a significant role this week.
Dolphins at Jets
Outlook: The early total for this AFC East matchup sits at 45 points with Miami favored by a field goal. Both teams are among the middle of the pack for passing yards per game. New York targets their wide receivers within the top ten of the league while Miami is within the worst third of the league for this ranking. We can fire up our Miami corners in leagues of all sizes but it will be “deeper leagues only” for our New York corners against a backup quarterback and “medium to deeper leagues” if Tua can play this week.
Miami Dolphins
Jalen Ramsey (CB): SOLID, he played 85% of snaps last week and then sat late when the game was out of reach for Cleveland.
Kader Kohou (CB): SOLID, he played 90% of snaps last week.
Kendall Fuller (CB): SIT/gently release back into the wild (no airlocks for this man, he’s done too much for us for too long in cornerback land). He was moved to IR last week after a knee injury.
Storm Duck (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, risky. He played 76% of snaps last week as the Fuller replacement but we’ve only seen it once that I can recall.
New York Jets
DJ Reed (CB): SOLID, he played 99% of snaps last week.
Sauce Gardner (CB): SOLID, if healthy, he exited after just 40% of snaps last week with a hamstring injury.
All others (CB): SIT. We’ve seen Brandin Echols and Isaiah Oliver as the preferred replacement corners at different times this season. If Sauce is inactive I can’t be sure which one will get more snaps, I would just skip it. It’s the Dolphins with a backup quarterback (in all likelihood), not the 1962 Green Bay Packers. And even if it is Tua under center, he’s not been targeting his wide receivers enough for us to be interested this week.
Giants at Eagles
Outlook: The early total for this NFC East showdown is 43 points with Philly favored by almost a full touchdown. Both teams are within the worst third of the league for passing yards per game. New York targets their wide receivers a metric ton when Nabers is healthy and active, and Philly barely targets their wide receivers (4th worst across the league).
We can fire up our Philly corners in leagues of all sizes if Nabers is active, and demote to “deeper leagues only” if he can’t go this week. For our New York corners, it will be “deeper leagues only” against this Philly offense that doesn’t target their wide receivers enough for us to be interested.
New York Giants
Deonte Banks (CB): SOLID, he played 95% of snaps last week.
Andru Phillips (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 73% of snaps last week.
All others (CB): SIT, it’s a gigantic mess beyond those two and not trustworthy in the least. They’re in full-on “experimentation mode” with this secondary.
Philadelphia Eagles
Quinyon Mitchell (CB): SOLID, he played 79% of snaps and then sat due to the blowout last week.
Darius Slay (CB): SOLID, he played 79% of snaps and then sat due to the blowout last week.
Cooper DeJean (CB): SOLID, he played 63% of snaps and then sat due to the blowout last week.
Bengals at Steelers
Outlook: The early total for this AFC North matchup sits at 43.5 points with Cincy favored by 1 point. This one is easy, fire up everyone on Pittsburgh against the best passing attack in the league that targets their talented wide receivers early and often (8th overall). And it will be “deeper leagues only” against a Pittsburgh passing attack that is within the worst third of the league and dead last in wide receiver targets overall.
Cincinnati Bengals
Cam Taylor Britt (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Mike Hilton (CB): SOLID, he played 87% of snaps last week.
Josh Newton (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Joey Porter Jr (CB): SOLID, if healthy, he was inactive last week with a knee injury.
Donte Jackson (CB): SOLID, he played 94% of snaps last week.
James Pierre (CB): SIT, he only played 29% of snaps last week, Trice appears to be the current Porter Jr replacement.
Cory Trice (CB): SOLID, only if Porter Jr is inactive again, otherwise sit. He played 76% of snaps last week and appears to be the Porter Jr replacement. I can’t guarantee that though. We’ve seen Cameron Sutton, Beanie Bishop Jr, and others at different points this season. It could just as easily be one of them instead if Porter Jr is out again this week.
All others (CB): SIT, see Trice’s blurb above, it’s been a mess beyond Porter Jr and Donte Jackson for Pittsburgh this season.
Saints at Bucs
Outlook: The early total for this one is 43 points with Tampa Bay favored by a field goal. Tampa Bay is the third-best passing attack in the league while New Orleans is dead on arrival. Tampa Bay targets their wide receivers within the top third of the league while New Orleans is the second-worst overall in this ranking. It will be “deeper leagues only/skip it entirely” for our Tampa Bay options and “ideal matchup/leagues of all sizes” for our New Orleans corners in Week 18.
New Orleans Saints
Alontae Taylor (CB): IDEAL, he played 97% of snaps last week.
Koolaid McKinstry (CB): SOLID, he played 96% of snaps last week.
Will Harris (CB/S): IDEAL, he played 100% of snaps last week as a starting safety incorrectly designated a cornerback in Yahoo and perhaps elsewhere.
Ugo Amadi (CB/S): SIT, he only played 48% of snaps last week and this was the second week in a row where his playing time took a hit, he was around 65% of snaps the week prior and a full-time player before that. Abandon ship! All hands to the escape pods!
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Jamel Dean (CB): SOLID, if healthy, he exited after 49% of snaps with a knee injury last week. He is a full-time player when healthy.
Zyon McCollum (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Christian Izien (CB/S): SIT/blast out the airlock. He was moved to IR last week for a pectoral injury.
All others (CB): SIT, we don’t need to chase the Jamel Dean backup corner against one of the worst passing attacks in the league with a backup quarterback under center (likely, who knows on Carr). It’s the Saints, not the 1988 Bengals.
Texans at Titans
Outlook: The early total for this AFC South matchup is 45 points with Houston favored by a field goal. Both teams are among the middle of the pack for passing yards per game. Both teams are within the middle of the pack for wide receiver targets. We can fire up our normal options in “medium to deeper leagues” and be looking good here I think. It’s probably closer to “deeper leagues only” for our Houston corners though.
Houston Texans
Derek Stingley (CB): SOLID, he played 78% of snaps and then sat due to the blowout last week. He typically plays every snap in a closer game.
Kamari Lassiter (CB): SOLID, he played 78% of snaps and then sat due to the blowout last week. He typically plays every snap in a closer game.
Jeff Okudah (CB): SIT, he only played 27% of snaps last week, the most he’s seen is around 50%, and he’s projected like a full-time corner on many sites. That is not the case and hasn’t been all season long.
Tennessee Titans
Jarvis Brownlee (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Chidobe Awuzie (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he was down to 60% of snaps last week and isn’t injured. We’ll assume he sees a limited role again this week and plan accordingly with the “deeper leagues” tag.
Roger McCreary (CB): SOLID, he played 72% of snaps last week.
Byes this week: None

Reminder: these are only suggestions. Your lineup is your responsibility and yours alone. However, these are the same moves I’m making myself so we sink or swim together. Remember to check for inactive players before kickoff to prevent any surprise zeroes.
