Johny The Greek's Cornerback Corner: Week 15
What are the best CB options for IDP fantasy football leagues in Week 15?
Welcome back to the Cornerback Corner! As is tradition, we’ll start with transparency and get right into this week’s calls.
Last week, I made 75 calls for leagues of all shapes and sizes. Of those 75 calls, 4 were declared inactive or were injured during play, which caused them to miss their projection (early in the game). Subtracting those players, we’re left with 71 “adjusted” calls.
Of those, 50 were correct (matched, beat, or were within a slim margin of their projection on Yahoo and MFL), and 21 were incorrect (didn’t match or beat projection and weren’t even close), giving us 70% accuracy for Week 14.
Of those 50 correct calls, 20 were “massive hits” (doubled, tripled, or more, their projection), giving us a 40% massive hit rate on correct calls for Week 14.
We are 75% accurate overall for the season, with 40% of all correct calls ending up as “massive hits.”
Week 1: 78% accuracy, 34% massive hit rate
Week 2: 71% accuracy, 43% massive hit rate
Week 3: 76% accuracy, 50% massive hit rate
Week 4: 66% accuracy, 53% massive hit rate
Week 5: 89% accuracy, 40% massive hit rate
Week 6: 80% accuracy, 40% massive hit rate
Week 7: 70% accuracy, 52% massive hit rate
Week 8: 81% accuracy, 43% massive hit rate
Week 9: 72% accuracy, 34% massive hit rate
Week 10: 76% accuracy, 23% massive hit rate
Week 11: 70% accuracy, 39% massive hit rate
Week 12: 83% accuracy, 31% massive hit rate
Week 13: 71% accuracy, 46% massive hit rate
Week 14: 70% accuracy, 40% massive hit rate
Please see THIS or THIS if you need a primer in cornerback streaming or what’s being discussed in this article (for new readers).
When I list the corners each week, it’s always STARTER/BACKUP/BACKUP in “depth chart/what we’ve seen” order if we’re dealing with an injured cornerback.
If you notice a player playing safety who is designated a corner in your league of merit, please feel free to comment below. I’ll update the article with that information so we all can share in the bounty of the designation mistakes from these league sites. Thank you!
Rams at 49ers
Outlook: We’ve got an excellent 47-point total with just a field goal spread to kick off Week 15. That’s exactly what we want to see (high total, low spread, Vegas implying we’re getting a shootout and a back-and-forth affair). San Francisco is a top-ten passing attack, and Los Angeles is in the league's top third. Los Angeles targets their wide receivers the most across the league while San Francisco is within the top third of the league for this ranking. This is a perfect setup across the board for our cornerbacks, fire them up with confidence in leagues of all sizes in Week 15.
Los Angeles Rams
Darious Williams (CB): SOLID, he played 97% of snaps last week.
Cobie Durant (CB): SOLID, he played 83% of snaps last week.
Akhello Witherspoon (CB): SIT, he only played 10% of snaps last week, even less the week prior.
San Francisco 49ers
Renardo Green (CB): SOLID, he played 85% of snaps and then sat due to the blowout last week.
Chavarious Ward (CB): IDEAL, he played 83% of snaps and then sat due to the blowout last week.
Deommodore Lenoir (CB): IDEAL, he played 87% of snaps and then sat due to the blowout last week.
Cowboys at Panthers
Outlook: We’ve got an acceptable 44-points for the early total here with Dallas only favored by a point or so. Dallas is a top-ten passing attack while Carolina is within the worst third of the league but has been better recently. Dallas targets their wide receivers the second most across the league while Carolina is within the top third of the league for this ranking. We can fire up our normal options in leagues of all sizes and look good here.
Dallas Cowboys
Trevon Diggs (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Jourdan Lewis (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
DaRon Bland (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Carolina Panthers
Jaycee Horn (CB): SOLID, if healthy. He played 78% of snaps last week but left with a groin injury. If Horn is inactive then we’d see both Dane Jackson and Chau Smith-Wade with acceptable playing time would be my guess, but it’s super dangerous in the first week of fantasy playoffs so SIT those options if Horn is inactive and look elsewhere.
Mike Jackson (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Dane Jackson/Chau Smith-Wade (CB): SIT them both. We’ve seen them flip-flop between who plays more each week for the past month, and it is anything but stable.
Chiefs at Browns
Outlook: The early total for this AFC matchup sits at 44.5 points with Kansas City favored by a touchdown. Both teams are within the top third of the league for passing offense, yards per game. Cleveland targets their wide receivers the third most in the league while Kansas City is within the worst third of the league for this ranking. We can fire up our Kansas City corners in leagues of all sizes but it will be “medium to deeper leagues” for our Cleveland corners this week.
Kansas City Chiefs
Trent McDuffie (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Chammari Conner (CB/S): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 75% of snaps last week.
Nazeeh Johnson/Joshua Williams (CB): SIT them both, this slot has flip-flopped several times in the past month. Nazeeh only saw 23% of snaps last week while Williams saw 63%. That was almost the exact opposite just a couple of weeks ago, we can’t trust this slot currently, especially during fantasy playoffs.
Cleveland Browns
Denzel Ward (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Martin Emerson (CB): SOLID, he played 72% of snaps last week.
Greg Newsome (CB): SIT, he only played 55% of snaps last week and usually plays around that amount each week. It’s a bad bet against this Kansas City team that barely targets their wide receivers. He also picked up a hamstring injury and is unlikely to play this week, we’ll see who the replacement corner is for next week and circle back.
Dolphins at Texans
Outlook: The early total for this one is 46.5 points with Houston favored by a field goal. Looking good so far. Houston is within the top third of the league for passing offense while Miami is among the middle of the pack. Houston targets their wide receivers within the top ten of the league while Miami is within the league’s worst third for this ranking. We can fire up our Miami corners in leagues of all sizes but it will be “medium to deeper leagues” for our Houston corners against this Miami passing attack that’s been better recently but still targets their tight ends and running backs more than we’d like.
Miami Dolphins
Jalen Ramsey (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Kader Kohou (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 69% of snaps last week and now that everyone is healthy will resume his role as the cornerback who plays the least for this defense.
Kendall Fuller (CB): SOLID, he played 99% of snaps last week.
Houston Texans
Derek Stingley (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps the last time we saw him (bye last week).
Kamari Lassiter (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps the last time we saw him (bye last week).
No significant third CB option
Jets at Jaguars
Outlook: We’ve got a lower total at just 40.5 points with New York favored by a field goal. Both teams are within the worst third of the league for overall passing offense. New York targets their wide receivers within the top third of the league while Jacksonville is among the middle of the pack. We can fire up our Jacksonville corners in medium to deeper leagues but it will be “deeper leagues only” for our New York corners this week.
New York Jets
DJ Reed (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Sauce Gardner/Brandin Echols (CB): SOLID, if healthy, Sauce was inactive last week and Echols was his direct replacement. We’ve seen that before, but we’ve also seen Isiah Oliver as a replacement before as well so who knows anymore? SIT Echols, Oliver, and any other backup corners if Sauce can’t go this week. Fantasy playoffs isn’t the time to screw around.
Michael Carter (CB): SIT, he only played 17% of snaps last week.
Jalen Mills (CB/S): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 68% of snaps last week and is designated a corner in Yahoo.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Tyson Campbell (CB): SOLID, he played 98% of snaps last week.
Montaric Brown (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 72% of snaps last week.
Jarrian Jones/Ronald Darby (CB): SIT them both, they played 67% and 27% of snaps respectively and this slot appears to be in flux. We can’t trust either currently.
Darnell Savage (CB/S): SOLID, he played 91% of snaps last week and is designated a corner in Yahoo.
Commanders at Saints
Outlook: We’ve got a huge total at 48 points with Washington favored by a field goal. Both teams are among the middle of the pack for passing offense, yards per game. Washington is within the top third of the league for targeting their wide receivers while New Orleans is now dead last across the league for this ranking. It will be “deeper leagues only” for our Washington corners this week against a backup quarterback and “medium to deeper leagues” for our New Orleans corners.
Washington Commanders
Mike Sainristil (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps the last time we saw him (bye last week).
Noah Igbinoghene (CB): SOLID, he played 96% of snaps the last time we saw him.
Benjamin St Juste (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 85% of snaps the last time we saw him and is among those most in danger of being displaced when Lattimore returns to the lineup.
Quan Martin (CB/S): SOLID, he played 89% of snaps the last time we saw him as a starting safety that’s incorrectly designated a corner in Yahoo.
Michael Davis/Marshon Lattimore (CB): SIT them both, Davis only played 15% of snaps prior to the bye week so we can blast him out of the airlock. Lattimore could return this week and would steal snaps from one of the corners above. My guess is St Juste would be the victim but since I don’t work for Washington they won’t tell me. The smart move here is to avoid all Washington corners this week, seriously. The matchup is garbage to start with and if Lattimore plays someone is getting the rug pulled on them and I can’t be sure who that will be.
New Orleans Saints
Alontae Taylor (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Koolaid McKinstry (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Ugo Amadi (CB/S): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week and is a corner on several league sites.
Will Harris (CB/S): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week and is a corner in Yahoo and perhaps elsewhere.
Ravens at Giants
Outlook: The early total for this one is 44.5 points with Baltimore favored by two touchdowns. Baltimore is the 4th best passing attack in the league while New York is now the second-worst passing offense overall. New York is a top-ten team for targeting their wide receivers while Baltimore is within the worst third of the league. We can fire up our Baltimore corners in deeper leagues only, although Humphrey should be OK. It will be “medium to deeper leagues” for our New York corners in this setup.
Baltimore Ravens
Marlon Humphrey (CB): SOLID, he played 98% of snaps the last time we saw him (bye last week).
Nate Wiggins (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 62% of snaps the last time we saw him.
Brandon Stephens (CB/S): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 73% of snaps the last time we saw him.
Ar’Darius Washington (CB/S): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps the last time we saw him as a starting safety incorrectly designated a corner in Yahoo.
New York Giants
Deonte Banks/Adoree Jackson (CB): Banks would be SOLID if healthy, he was inactive last week and we got Jackson for 100% of snaps, which is something we’ve seen before. Jackson would be a SOLID replacement for Banks if needed this week.
Andru Phillips (CB): Phillips was inactive last week with a shoulder injury, Hawkins appeared to be his replacement or the preferred replacement. Phillips would be SOLID, deeper leagues only, if he can go this week.
Cor’Dale Flott (CB): Flott was questionable all week but ultimately deemed healthy, then never played in the game. There is a mix of injury and fluctuation happening here and the easiest way to explain it is if it’s not Banks (with Jackson as the backup option) then I can’t guarantee it’s safe this week. SIT Flott.
Tre Hawkins (CB): With both Flott and Phillips out last week we got Hawkins for 87% of snaps. SIT him, there’s fluctuation and experimentation happening here now that the season is over for them. We don’t want to get the rug pulled on us in the first week of fantasy playoffs so just stay away.
Bengals at Titans
Outlook: The early total for this matchup is 49 points with Cincy favored by 4 points. Cincy is the best passing attack in the league while Tennessee is the third worst passing offense in the league. Cincy is within the top third of the league for wide receiver targets while Tennessee is within the worst third of the league. It will be “leagues of all sizes” for our Tennessee corner this week and “deeper leagues only” for our Cincy options.
Cincinnati Bengals
Cam Taylor Britt (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Josh Newton (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Mike Hilton (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 57% of snaps last week.
Tennessee Titans
Jarvis Brownlee (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week. This is close to ideal but some of the fluctuation here and the losing record gives me pause. It’s never set in stone when a team is swirling the toilet like this, we’re already seeing teams in similar situations experiment with different players to “get them on tape” and start to look at if they’ll be a part of the team next season or not. Brownlee should be fine, but if he were the starter and not a random backup his matchup would be IDEAL this week.
Chidobe Awuzie (CB): SOLID, he returned from IR last week and played 73% of snaps. I would expect the playing time to increase next week and the matchup is terrific.
Roger McCreary/Darrell Baker Jr (CB): McCreary was inactive last week but would be SOLID if healthy. Baker Jr kept his status as a preferred replacement option last week playing 100% of snaps. If McCreary is inactive again this week then Baker Jr would be a SOLID option, sit him otherwise.
Patriots at Cardinals
Outlook: The early total for this one is 45 points with Arizona favored by a touchdown. New England is the worst passing attack in the league, yards per game, while Arizona is within the worst third of the league. Both teams are within the worst third of the league for targeting their wide receivers. It will be “deeper leagues only” across the board for this one.
New England Patriots
Marcus Jones (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he only played 39% of snaps the last time we saw him (bye last week) but that was against a run first, second, and always Indy team. I would expect better playing time this week.
Jonathan Jones (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he only played 34% of snaps against the Colts prior to the bye week but that tracks. Richardson only attempted 24 passes in that game and completed 12, New England favored linebackers and beef over speed against the Colts. He should have better snaps this week but this matchup isn’t great either so deeper leagues only.
Christian Gonzalez (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps the last time we saw him.
Arizona Cardinals
Garrett Williams (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 81% of snaps last week.
Starling Thomas (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 56% of snaps last week, much much deeper leagues only with this matchup and that playing time.
Max Melton (CB): SIT, he only played 48% of snaps last week and the matchup is not good.
Sean Murphy Bunting (CB): SOLID, he played 92% of snaps last week.
Colts at Broncos
Outlook: We’ve got a lower total at just 43 points with Denver favored by almost a touchdown. Denver is among the middle of the pack for passing offense while Indy is within the worst third of the league. Both teams are within the top ten for targeting their wide receivers. It’s “leagues of all sizes” for our Indy corners this week but only “medium to deeper leagues” for our Denver corners to thread the needle between some nice rankings but a limited ceiling of completed passes with Anthony Richardson under center (he completes around ten passes per game).
Indianapolis Colts
Kenny Moore (CB): IDEAL, he played 99% of snaps the last time we saw him (bye last week).
Jaylon Jones (CB): SOLID, he played 99% of snaps the last time we saw him.
Samuel Womack (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 72% of snaps the last time we saw him.
Denver Broncos
Patrick Surtain (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps the last time we saw him (bye last week).
Riley Moss/Levi Wallace (CB): SOLID, if healthy, for Moss. If he’s inactive again this week then Wallace would be the replacement and is also SOLID, deeper leagues only for everyone with this matchup.
JaQuan McMillian (CB): SOLID, he played 72% of snaps the last time we saw him.
Bills at Lions
Outlook: We’ve got a massive 51.5 points for the early total with Detroit favored by a field goal. This has got a shootout and “back and forth affair” written all over it. Detroit is now the third-best passing offense in the league while Buffalo is within the top third of the league. Both teams are just in the middle of the pack for their wide receiver targets ranking. Fire up everyone with a pulse, this is a terrific matchup.
Buffalo Bills
Taron Johnson (CB): IDEAL, he played 99% of snaps last week.
Rasul Douglas/Jamarcus Ingram (CB): SOLID if healthy, Rasul played 79% of snaps last week and then exited with a knee injury. Ingram appeared to be his direct replacement but we’ve only seen it once and it’s the fantasy playoffs so we’re skipping it. We can screw around in Week 5, not Week 15. SIT Ingram if Rasul is inactive is the official recommendation, but it should be him if you’re desperate and need a warm body and Rasul is inactive again this week.
Christian Benford (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Detroit Lions
Carlton Davis (CB): IDEAL, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Terrion Arnold (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Brian Branch (CB/S): IDEAL, he played 90% of snaps then exited with cramps last week, he should be good to go.
Amik Robertson/All others (CB): SIT, with everyone back to healthy for this cornerback corps Robertson only saw 34% of snaps, and our other recent replacement corners were nowhere to be seen, which tracks.
Bucs at Chargers
Outlook: The early total for this one sits at 46.5 points with Los Angeles favored by a field goal. Tampa Bay is the 6th best passing offense in the league while Los Angeles is within the worst third of the league. Tampa Bay is within the top third of the league for targeting their wide receivers while Los Angeles is within the worst third of the league. It will be “deeper leagues only” for our Tampa Bay corners against this “run first” Chargers team. Our Los Angeles corners can be fired up in leagues of all sizes against this very good Tampa Bay passing attack.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Zyon McCollum (CB): SOLID, he played 97% of snaps last week.
Jamel Dean (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Christian Izien (CB/S): SOLID, he played 97% of snaps last week and is almost guaranteed a significant role now going forward with both Whitehead and Winfield Jr out.
Los Angeles Chargers
Elijah Molden (CB/S): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Kristian Fulton (CB): SOLID, he played 87% of snaps last week.
Tarheeb Still (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 77% of snaps last week even with Cam Hart returning from injury. It appears he’s keeping his job/role.
Cam Hart (CB): SIT, he returned from injury but only played 39% of snaps last week. It appears that Still has displaced him for now.
Steelers at Eagles
Outlook: The early total for this matchup sits at 45.5 points with Philly favored by almost a touchdown. Pittsburgh is among the middle of the pack for passing offense while Philly is within the worst third of the league. Neither team targets their wide receivers enough for us to be interested, Pittsburgh is the second-worst team for this ranking while Philly is third worst. It will be “deeper leagues only” across the board for this one.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Donte Jackson (CB): SOLID, he played 74% of snaps last week.
Joey Porter Jr (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Beanie Bishop Jr/Cameron Sutton (CB): SIT them both, Bishop played 81% of snaps while Sutton was in for just 18% of snaps last week. It was almost the exact opposite of that the week prior. We can’t trust this slot currently. Skip it for now or risk taking a zero if we choose wrong.
Philadelphia Eagles
Cooper DeJean (CB): SOLID, he played 86% of snaps last week.
Darius Slay (CB): SOLID, he played 97% of snaps last week.
Quinyon Mitchell (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Packers at Seahawks
Outlook: This Sunday night showdown has an early total of 46.5 points with Green Bay favored by a field goal. Seattle is the second-best passing attack in the league while Green Bay is now the ninth-best overall. Seattle is a top-ten team for wide receiver targets while Green Bay is within the top third of the league. We can fire up all the normal cornerback options on both teams with confidence in this ideal matchup.
Green Bay Packers
Jaire Alexander (CB): SOLID, if healthy, he was inactive again last week.
Keisean Nixon (CB): SOLID, he played 99% of snaps last week, borderline ideal in this matchup.
Carrington Valentine/Eric Stokes/All others (CB): SIT. Even without Jaire last week Valentine only played 57% of snaps while Stokes was in for 52%. There is no “direct replacement” for Jaire at the moment it looks like.
Seattle Seahawks
Tariq Woolen (CB): SOLID, he played 99% of snaps last week.
Devon Witherspoon (CB): IDEAL, he played 99% of snaps last week.
Josh Jobe (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 66% of snaps last week.
Coby Bryant (CB/S): IDEAL, he played 100% of snaps last week while Rayshawn Jenkins actually lost snaps yet again. His position and playing time appear safe for now.
Bears at Vikings
Outlook: The first of two Monday night football games this week has an early total of just 42.5 points with Minnesota favored by almost a full touchdown. Minnesota is within the top third of the league for passing offense while Chicago is within the worst third of the league. Chicago is a top-ten team for wide receiver targets while Minnesota is among the middle of the pack. We can fire up our normal cornerback options in medium to deeper leagues on both sides and look good here.
Chicago Bears
Kyler Gordon (CB): SOLID, he played 77% of snaps last week.
Jaylon Johnson (CB): SOLID, he played 98% of snaps last week.
Tyrique Stevenson/Terrell Smith (CB): SIT them both. Stevenson played 48% of snaps while Smith was in for 54% last week. Neither is an option while they both hover around half the snaps played each week and it’s been like this for about a month now.
Minnesota Vikings
Byron Murphy (CB): SOLID, he played 85% of snaps last week and then sat due to the blowout.
Stephon Gilmore/Shaq Griffin (CB): Gilmore was inactive last week but would be SOLID if healthy. Griffin saw a bump with Gilmore out up to 77% of snaps and would be SOLID, deeper leagues only, if Gilmore is inactive again this week.
Josh Metellus (CB/S): SOLID, he played 91% of snaps last week and is a safety incorrectly designated a corner in Yahoo.
Falcons at Raiders
Outlook: The second Monday night game this week has an early total of 44.5 points with Atlanta favored by a field goal. Atlanta is a top-ten passing offense while Las Vegas is among the middle of the pack. Atlanta is a top-ten team for wide receiver targets while Las Vegas is within the middle of the pack. It will be “medium to deeper leagues” for our Atlanta corners but “leagues of all sizes” and a perfect setup for our Las Vegas corners.
Atlanta Falcons
AJ Terrell (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Mike Hughes/Clark Phillips (CB): Hughes returned from injury last week and played 28% of snaps while Phillips simultaneously went down to 70% of snaps played. I would expect that trend to continue as the starter (Hughes) eases back into the lineup. SIT them both for now.
Dee Alford (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 67% of snaps last week.
Las Vegas Raiders
Nate Hobbs/DeCamerion Richardson (CB): SOLID if healthy, he hasn’t even practiced since Week 9 though so I expect him to be inactive again. Richardson is the direct replacement and played 100% of snaps last week and would be SOLID this week.
Darnay Holmes (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 56% of snaps last week but I would expect more playing time against this Atlanta offense that passes early and often.
Jack Jones (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Byes this week: None
