Johny The Greek's Cornerback Corner: Week 14
What are the best CB options for IDP fantasy football leagues in Week 14?
Welcome back to the Cornerback Corner! As is tradition, we’ll start with transparency and get right into this week’s calls.
Last week, I made 95 calls for leagues of all shapes and sizes. Of those 95 calls, 6 were declared inactive or were injured during play, which caused them to miss their projection (early in the game). Subtracting those players, we’re left with 89 “adjusted” calls.
Of those, 64 were correct (matched, beat, or were within a slim margin of their projection on Yahoo and MFL), and 25 were incorrect (didn’t match or beat projection and weren’t even close), giving us 71% accuracy for Week 13.
Of those 64 correct calls, 30 were “massive hits” (doubled, tripled, or more, their projection), giving us a 46% massive hit rate on correct calls for Week 13.
We are 75% accurate overall for the season, with 40% of all correct calls ending up as “massive hits.”
Week 1: 78% accuracy, 34% massive hit rate
Week 2: 71% accuracy, 43% massive hit rate
Week 3: 76% accuracy, 50% massive hit rate
Week 4: 66% accuracy, 53% massive hit rate
Week 5: 89% accuracy, 40% massive hit rate
Week 6: 80% accuracy, 40% massive hit rate
Week 7: 70% accuracy, 52% massive hit rate
Week 8: 81% accuracy, 43% massive hit rate
Week 9: 72% accuracy, 34% massive hit rate
Week 10: 76% accuracy, 23% massive hit rate
Week 11: 70% accuracy, 39% massive hit rate
Week 12: 83% accuracy, 31% massive hit rate
Week 13: 71% accuracy, 46% massive hit rate
Please see THIS or THIS if you need a primer in cornerback streaming or what’s being discussed in this article (for new readers).
When I list the corners each week, it’s always STARTER/BACKUP/BACKUP in “depth chart/what we’ve seen” order if we’re dealing with an injured cornerback.
If you notice a player playing safety who is designated a corner in your league of merit, please feel free to comment below. I’ll update the article with that information so we all can share in the bounty of the designation mistakes from these league sites. Thank you!
Packers at Lions
Outlook: The Thursday night game to kick off Week 14 looks good with a massive 51.5-point total and just a 5.5-point spread. Detroit has a top-ten passing attack, while Green Bay is in the league’s top third. Both teams are among the middle of the pack for targeting their wide receivers. This game will also be indoors in Detroit, which is another positive factor. We can fire up everyone with a pulse and hope we get the shootout that Vegas thinks we’re getting.
Green Bay Packers
Keisean Nixon (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Jaire Alexander (CB): Jaire was inactive last week but is “progressing” and has been spotted at practice this week. If he can go, he will be SOLID and should play every snap.
Eric Stokes/Carrington Valentine (CB): With Alexander out last week we got a little bit of Stokes and a little of Valentine combined to cover his absence. At 51% and 49% of snaps respectively, neither played enough to be of interest to us this week. SIT them both is the recommendation.
No other significant CB options.
Detroit Lions
Carlton Davis (CB): Carlton was inactive last week but typically plays every snap and would be SOLID, borderline ideal if he can play this week.
Terrion Arnold (CB): SOLID, he played 96% of snaps last week.
Amik Robertson (CB): With Carlton Davis inactive last week it was Robertson who saw a bump in playing time along with the traditional Kindle Vildor direct replacement. Amik played 70% of snaps but is usually under 50% of snaps, this was an outlier I’ve never seen before. I would continue to SIT him, he’ll only have value without Carlton Davis and we got a different setup for replacement corners last week so there’s nothing trustworthy at the moment.
Kindle Vildor (CB): Typically the direct replacement for any injured corners here in Detroit, Vildor only saw 57% of snaps last week. They went with a different plan than we’ve seen this season without Carlton Davis last week so we’re in a holding pattern until we get concrete information again. SIT him in general, and continue to SIT him even if Carlton Davis is out again this week.
Brian Branch (CB/S): IDEAL, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Jets at Dolphins
Outlook: We’ve got a 44.5-point total with Miami favored by a touchdown for this outdoor affair in Miami, where weather shouldn’t be a concern. Both teams are among the middle of the pack for passing offense, yards per game. Miami has been improving in this department noticeably since Tua returned. New York is within the top third of the league for targeting their wide receivers while Miami is within the worst third of the league. We should be set up well for our normal options in medium to deeper leagues. If Rogers shuts it down demote all Miami options to “deeper leagues only.”
New York Jets
DJ Reed (CB): SOLID, he played 88% of snaps last week.
Sauce Gardner/Isaiah Oliver (CB): SOLID, if healthy, he picked up a hamstring injury after 69% of snaps last week, Oliver appeared to fill in for him for the remainder of the game. Oliver will only have value if Sauce is inactive and would be SOLID, deeper leagues only, in that case.
Michael Carter (CB): SIT, he only played 36% of snaps last week.
Jalen Mills (CB/S): SOLID, despite not doing much in the box score, he did play 70% of snaps last week as the other starting safety incorrectly designated as a cornerback on Yahoo and elsewhere.
Miami Dolphins
Jalen Ramsey (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Kader Kohou/Storm Duck (CB): SOLID if healthy, he injured his back after 17% of snaps last week. Storm Duck is the preferred replacement cornerback in Miami these days and played 93% of snaps last week.
Kendall Fuller (CB): SOLID if healthy, he was inactive last week but should be clearing concussion protocol soon and typically plays every snap. If both Kohou and Fuller are inactive I would only trust Storm Duck as the replacement, it gets messy after that from what I’ve seen this season.
Falcons at Vikings
Outlook: The early total for this NFC matchup sits at 45.5 points with Minnesota favored by 4.5 points. Atlanta is a top-five passing attack while Minnesota is within the top third of the league for passing offense. Atlanta is within the top ten for targeting their wide receivers while Minnesota is among the middle of the pack. We can fire up our normal cornerback options in medium to deeper leagues for Atlanta but it will be “leagues of all sizes” for our Minnesota corners who are set up ideally in Week 14. This game will be indoors in Minnesota so that helps out as well now that we’re into early December.
Atlanta Falcons
AJ Terrell (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Mike Hughes/Clark Phillips (CB): Hughes would be SOLID, deeper leagues only after returning from a multi-week injury if he can play this week. Phillips has been the direct replacement for weeks now and played 100% of snaps last week as Hughes’s injury replacement. If Hughes is inactive again then Phillips would be SOLID.
Dee Alford (CB): SOLID, he played 63% of snaps last week and is getting back to his normal playing time.
Minnesota Vikings
Byron Murphy (CB): IDEAL, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Stephon Gilmore/Shaq Griffin (CB): Gilmore injured his hamstring after 43% of snaps last week. Griffin, who typically doesn’t play much but does play every week, saw a bump up to 67% of snaps as the injury fill-in. Gilmore would be SOLID if he can play, Griffin would be SOLID, deeper leagues only, if Gilmore is inactive this week.
Josh Metellus (CB/S): IDEAL, he played 79% of snaps last week.
Saints at Giants
Outlook: We’ve got a likely defensive battle and possible stinker with just a 39.5-point total and New Orleans favored by a field goal. New York is the third-worst passing attack in the league and will be rolling out another backup quarterback this week. Despite their top ten ranking for wide receiver targets, it will be “deeper leagues only” for our New Orleans corners (except Alontae, we always start him) since this ranking hasn’t caught up to the new reality of this Giant’s passing offense.
New Orleans is among the middle of the pack for passing offense but their wide receiver targets ranking is now the third worst across the league (mostly due to injuries). It will be “deeper leagues only” for our New York corners as well in this one. This game will be outdoors in New York in early December so that doesn’t help either.
New Orleans Saints
Alontae Taylor (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Ugo Amadi (CB/S): SOLID, he played 95% of snaps last week and is incorrectly designated as a corner in some places. In reality he is the nickelback for New Orleans.
Koolaid McKinstry (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Will Harris (CB/S): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week and is incorrectly designated a cornerback in some places.
New York Giants
Deonte Banks/Adoree Jackson (CB): Banks was inactive with a rib injury last week, if he can play he would be SOLID, deeper leagues only due to reinjury risk and this bad matchup. If he’s inactive then Jackson would be SOLID, deeper leagues only.
Cor’Dale Flott (CB): SOLID, he played 99% of snaps last week.
Andru Phillips (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 70% of snaps last week.
Panthers at Eagles
Outlook: The early total for this matchup sits at 44.5 points with Philly favored by almost two entire touchdowns. This game will be outdoors in Philly in early December so that’s a negative factor. Carolina is the second-worst passing offense in the league while Philly is within the worst third of the league. With Saquon doing what he’s been doing they simply don’t need to pass as much as we’d like them to. Carolina is within the top third of the league for wide receiver targets while Philly is the fourth-worst team in the league for this ranking. It will be “deeper leagues only” across the board for this one.
Carolina Panthers
Jaycee Horn (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Michael Jackson (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Chau Smith-Wade/Dane Jackson (CB): SIT them both, after a few weeks of Dane Jackson having this role secured we got the rug pulled out from under us last week with Jackson not playing at all and Wade seeing 62% of snaps. This slot is still in flux despite evidence to the contrary these past few weeks.
Philadelphia Eagles
Darius Slay/Isaiah Rogers (CB): If Slay can go he would be SOLID, deeper leagues only due to reinjury risk. Rogers has been his direct replacement and played 100% of snaps last week. If Slay is inactive again then Rogers is SOLID.
Quinyon Mitchell (CB): SOLID, he played 97% of snaps last week.
Cooper DeJean (CB): SOLID, he played 78% of snaps last week.
Browns at Steelers
Outlook: We’ve got another likely defensive struggle here with the early 40.5-point total and Pittsburgh favored by a touchdown. The weather could be a factor outdoors in Pittsburgh in early December, at the minimum it will be cold, maybe worse. Cleveland is within the middle of the pack for passing offense while Pittsburgh is within the worst third of the league but has improved under Wilson. Cleveland is a top-ten team for wide receiver targets while Pittsburgh is the second-worst team in the league for this ranking. It will be “deeper leagues only” for our Cleveland corners and “leagues of all sizes” against Winston, who loves to air it out, and often to the wrong team. Demote all Pittsburgh corners if Winston doesn’t play, obviously.
Cleveland Browns
Denzel Ward (CB): SOLID, he played 79% of snaps last week.
Martin Emerson (CB): SOLID, he played 85% of snaps last week.
Greg Newsome (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 64% of snaps last week and typically plays the least of the Cleveland corners.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Joey Porter Jr (CB): SOLID, he played 97% of snaps last week.
Donte Jackson (CB): SOLID, he played 95% of snaps last week.
Beanie Bishop Jr (CB): SIT, his playing time has been dropping like a rock the past couple of games and he only played just 10% of snaps last week.
Cameron Sutton (CB): SIT, he has apparently displaced Bishop and played 73% of snaps last week. We’ve only seen it once though so we’ll wait and make sure it’s real before recommending it.
Raiders at Bucs
Outlook: The early total sits at 44.5 points with Tampa Bay favored by a touchdown. This game will be outdoors but in Tampa Bay so we should be fine on that front. Tampa Bay is a top-ten passing attack while Las Vegas is within the middle of the pack. Tampa Bay targets their wide receivers within the top third of the league while Las Vegas is among the middle of the pack. We can fire up all our Las Vegas corners in an ideal setup this week but it will be “medium to deeper leagues” for our Tampa Bay corners in this setup.
Las Vegas Raiders
Nate Hobbs/DeCamerion Richardson (CB): Hobbs was inactive again last week so we got Richardson who played 100% of snaps as the preferred replacement corner. If Hobbs can go he would be IDEAL in this matchup, if he’s inactive then Richardson is SOLID as his replacement.
Jakorian Bennett/Darnay Holmes (CB): Bennett was also inactive again last week and when we’re missing one Raiders corner it’s Richardson, when we’re missing two is when we get Holmes. Jakorian would be SOLID if he could play, Holmes would only be an option if both Hobbs and Jakorian were inactive. He would be SOLID, deeper leagues, in that scenario.
Jack Jones (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Jamel Dean (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Zyon McCollum (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Christian Izien (CB/S): SOLID, risky, deeper leagues only. With Tykee Smith inactive last week we knew Izien would play, and he did to the tune of 84% of snaps. However now that Whitehead is on IR it’s likely that Izien will keep a role even when Tykee Smith returns to the field. I’m projecting this, I don’t work for Tampa Bay, so it could be wrong. If Tykee Smith is inactive then Izien is SOLID, demote to deeper leagues only if Smith ends up being able to play this week.
Jaguars at Titans
Outlook: We’ve got an acceptable 43 points for the early total with Tennessee favored by a field goal at home. Weather could be a factor but I checked the Tennessee forecast and it doesn’t look like they’re getting cold enough for snow anytime soon so that looks good for now. Jacksonville is the fifth-worst passing attack while Tennessee is the fourth-worst passing offense in the league. Both teams target their wide receivers within the worst third of the league. It will be “deeper leagues only” across the board for this divisional showdown.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Tyson Campbell (CB): SOLID, if healthy, he injured his thigh after 56% of snaps last week. Other corners saw a bump there was no direct replacement.
Ronald Darby (CB): SOLID, he played 75% of snaps last week.
Montaric Brown (CB): SOLID, he played 70% of snaps last week.
Darnell Savage (CB/S): SOLID, if healthy, he injured his ankle after 92% of snaps last week. It happened so late in the game that I didn’t see any replacements.
Tennessee Titans
Jarvis Brownlee (CB): With Sneed now on IR the job is his for the rest of the season. He played 100% of snaps last week and is SOLID this week.
Chidobe Awuzie/Darrell Baker Jr (CB): Awuzie is slated to return from IR this week or next, when that happens Baker Jr will lose all value. SIT them both this week unless you’re desperate, in that case, make sure Awuzie is inactive before starting Baker Jr.
Roger McCreary (CB): SOLID if healthy. He played 51% of snaps last week and exited early with a shoulder issue. I did not see a direct replacement corner. We can skip the backup corner search for this week; it’s the Jags under a backup quarterback, not the 1981 Chargers.
Daryl Worley (S/CB): Mike Brown, the starting safety in Tennessee for the last month plus, was just demoted and displaced by Worley. Worley is a cornerback in Yahoo but is playing starting safety for Tennessee. Cheat code. SOLID, would be ideal in a better matchup.
Seahawks at Cardinals
Outlook: The early total for this NFC West divisional matchup sits at 46 points with Arizona favored by two points, looking good so far! This game will be in Arizona so no weather concerns. Seattle is the second-best passing offense in the league while Arizona is within the worst third of the league for passing yards per game. Seattle is within the top ten for wide receiver targets while Arizona is now dead last in this category across the league. It’s a perfect setup for our Arizona corners but will be “deeper leagues only” for our Seattle options in Week 14.
Seattle Seahawks
Devon Witherspoon (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Tariq Woolen (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Josh Jobe (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 76% of snaps last week.
Coby Bryant (CB/S): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps yet again last week even with Rayshawn Jenkins now back for two weeks. Jenkins snaps did NOT increase. Bryant appears to be safe at the moment. It’s still risky but it is a cheat code corner in Yahoo and other places who’s really playing safety.
Arizona Cardinals
Starling Thomas (CB): SOLID, he played 77% of snaps last week.
Garrett Williams (CB): SOLID, he played 70% of snaps last week.
Max Melton (CB): SIT, while he has parlayed his earlier injury replacement duties into a consistent role, he only played 49% of snaps last week so we’re not interested yet.
Sean Murphy Bunting (CB): SOLID, he played 74% of snaps last week.
Bills at Rams
Outlook: We’ve got a massive 48.5 points for the early total with Buffalo favored by a field goal, which looks excellent. This game will be in Los Angeles so no weather concerns. Los Angeles is a top-ten passing offense while Buffalo is within the top third of the league. Los Angeles now targets their wide receivers the most in the entire league while Buffalo is within the worst third of the league for this ranking. It is a perfect setup for our Buffalo corners but will be “medium to deeper leagues” for our Los Angeles corners in Week 14.
Buffalo Bills
Taron Johnson (CB): IDEAL, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Christian Benford (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Rasul Douglas (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Los Angeles Rams
Darious Williams (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Cobie Durant (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Akhello Witherspoon (CB): After seeing consistent playing time for the last month or so, Witherspoon played zero snaps last week. Blast him out of the airlock we’re all done here. We don’t need any rug-pull shenanigans this close to fantasy playoffs, he’ll be a SIT going forward.
Bears at 49ers
Outlook: The early total for this battle of two dumpster fires sits at 44.5 points with San Francisco favored by a touchdown. The game will be in California so the weather won’t be a concern. Chicago is within the worst third of the league for passing offense while San Francisco is a top-ten team (with Purdy under center, demote everyone to deeper leagues if he can’t go this week). Chicago is within the top ten for targeting their wide receivers while San Francisco is among the middle of the pack. We can fire up our normal options in medium to deeper leagues and be looking good here.
Chicago Bears
Kyler Gordon (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 71% of snaps last week.
Jaylon Johnson (CB): SOLID, he played 99% of snaps last week.
Terrell Smith/Tyrique Stevenson (CB): SIT them both, the fluctuation continues as Stevenson played 60% of snaps last week while Smith was in for 39%. It was almost the exact opposite the week prior. We can’t trust either to see anything better than about half the snaps in any given week currently.
San Francisco 49ers
Chavarious Ward (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Renardo Green (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week, he did see a bump with Lenoir out and should be closer to 80% of snaps when everyone is healthy, which is never, apparently.
Deommodore Lenoir/Isaac Yiadom (CB): Lenoir was inactive last week, if he can play this week he would be SOLID. Yiadom is traditionally the preferred backup corner but only played 19% of snaps last week. My guess is due to the weather and game script, the 49ers opted for more linebackers and fewer defensive backs in the snow at Buffalo. If Lenoir is inactive then SIT Yiadom just in case I’m wrong about that and he’s in the dog house.
Chargers at Chiefs
Outlook: We’ve got a 44.5-point early total with Kansas City favored by just over a field goal. This game will be outdoors in Kansas City so keep an eye on the weather report and demote accordingly if it ends up snowing or something crazy. Kansas City is within the top third of the league for passing offense while Los Angeles is among the middle of the pack. Both teams are within the worst third of the league for wide receiver targets. It will be “medium to deeper leagues” across the board in this one.
Los Angeles Chargers
Kristian Fulton (CB): SOLID, he played 94% of snaps last week.
Elijah Molden (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Tarheeb Still (CB): SOLID but risky. He could be fully displaced if Hart can play this week. I bet he won’t after his performance last week but we can’t be sure because I don’t work for the Chargers. We need to see them both healthy simultaneously to get a real read on this cornerback slot. If Cam Hart is inactive again then Still would be good to go for sure.
Cam Hart (CB): SIT, he may return this week but after what Still did last week (INT TD to seal the game) my bet is he retains that role. The smart move is to SIT them both and see what happens.
Kansas City Chiefs
Trent McDuffie (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Chammari Conner (CB): SOLID, he played 74% of snaps last week.
Nazeeh Johnson/Joshua Williams (CB): Nazeeh saw his playing time drop to just 19% of snaps last week and he’s healthy, I may have missed something but this looks like a regular old displacement. Williams was in for 78% of snaps and these two went back and forth for this cornerback slot earlier this season. It appears we’re back at it again. SIT them both for now, we’ll see how it develops and adjust from there.
Bengals at Cowboys
Outlook: The early total for this one sits at 45.5 points with Cincy favored by a touchdown. Cincy is now the best passing attack in the league and is within the top third of the league for wide receiver targets. We can fire up everyone with a pulse on Dallas and be in an ideal setup for cornerback production. Dallas is also a top-ten passing offense and hasn’t slowed down much with Cooper Rush under center. They target their wide receivers the second most across the league and are typically one-dimensional (they don’t rush, they pass). Our Cincy corners are also ideally set up in this matchup to round out Week 14.
Cincinnati Bengals
Josh Newton (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week and has been the DJ Turner replacement for two weeks now. Turner went to IR and is done for the season.
Cam Taylor Britt (CB): SOLID, risky though. He played 100% of snaps last week but saw a huge reduction in snaps the week prior (he was benched). He’s on shaky ground.
Mike Hilton (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 77% of snaps last week and has been a shell of his former self when it comes to production this season.
Dallas Cowboys
Trevon Diggs/Josh Butler (CB): Diggs was inactive last week but would be SOLID, borderline ideal, this week if he can play. Butler is his direct replacement and was injured last week. Keep an eye on this slot and practice reports, whoever is healthy (Diggs gets the first crack at starting, obviously) will have an excellent matchup this week. If Diggs is inactive and Butler is healthy then Butler would be SOLID.
Jourdan Lewis (CB): SOLID, he played 98% of snaps last week.
DaRon Bland (CB): IDEAL, he played 92% of snaps last week and is in a terrific matchup this week.
Byes this week: Ravens, Broncos, Texans, Colts, Patriots, Commanders

Thank you for reading and good luck this week!
Hi Johnny, in a 12 team Dynasty Superflex true position start 20. I have a deep CB room with Dejean, Taron Johnson, Tykee Smith, Riley Moss and Sainristil. What would you take for Taron Johnson - a 4th feels a bit too cheap but he’s 29 next year and I’m not convinced I need him. Thanks.
