Johny The Greek's Cornerback Corner: Week 12
What are the best CB options for IDP fantasy football leagues in Week 12?
Welcome back to the Cornerback Corner! As is tradition, we’ll start with some transparency and get right into this week’s calls.
Last week, I made 80 calls for leagues of all shapes and sizes. Of those 80 calls, 7 were declared inactive or were injured during play, which caused them to miss their projection (early in the game). Subtracting those players, we’re left with 73 “adjusted” calls.
Of those, 51 were correct (matched, beat, or were within a slim margin of their projection on Yahoo and MFL), and 22 were incorrect (didn’t match or beat projection and weren’t even close), giving us 70% accuracy for Week 11.
Of those 51 correct calls, 20 were “massive hits” (doubled, tripled, or more, their projection), giving us a 39% massive hit rate on correct calls for Week 11.
We are 75% accurate overall for the season, with 41% of all correct calls ending up as “massive hits.”
Week 1: 78% accuracy, 34% massive hit rate
Week 2: 71% accuracy, 43% massive hit rate
Week 3: 76% accuracy, 50% massive hit rate
Week 4: 66% accuracy, 53% massive hit rate
Week 5: 89% accuracy, 40% massive hit rate
Week 6: 80% accuracy, 40% massive hit rate
Week 7: 70% accuracy, 52% massive hit rate
Week 8: 81% accuracy, 43% massive hit rate
Week 9: 72% accuracy, 34% massive hit rate
Week 10: 76% accuracy, 23% massive hit rate
Week 11: 70% accuracy, 39% massive hit rate
Please see THIS or THIS if you need a primer in cornerback streaming or what’s being discussed in this article (for new readers).
If you've read this more than once, you know the drill by now: When I list the corners each week, it’s always STARTER/BACKUP/BACKUP in “depth chart/what we’ve seen” order if we’re dealing with an injured cornerback.
If you notice a player that’s playing safety and is designated a corner in your league of merit please feel free to comment below. I’ll update the article with that information so we all can share in the bounty from the designation mistakes from these league sites. Thank you!
And finally, we’ve got six teams on bye this week. There will be a ton of “smoke and mirrors” on both sides of the ball for our fantasy teams in Week 12. I don’t see many “ideal” setups this week and we’re missing some of our best options such as Taron Johnson, Rasul, Benford, Alford, Alontae, DJ Reed, etc.
Take it by matchup, start with the best real game matchups then find the best corners within those matchups. It’s the best we can do under the circumstances and your opponents are in the same boat but likely aren’t reading this. We’ll get through it and into playoffs as is tradition. Good luck this week!
Steelers at Browns
Outlook: We’ll likely have a defensive battle to kick off Week 12 with just a 41.5-point total and Cleveland getting four points. According to the rankings, neither passing attack is great, but we’ve seen improvement with Wilson and Jameis under center for each team respectively. Cleveland is within the top ten for targeting their wide receivers while Pittsburgh is dead last across the entire league for this ranking.
In this particular setup, our Pittsburgh corners will be in “medium to deeper leagues” and our Cleveland options will be in “deeper leagues only.”
Pittsburgh Steelers
Joey Porter Jr (CB): SOLID, he played 95% of snaps last week.
Donte Jackson (CB): SOLID, he played 90% of snaps last week.
Beanie Bishop Jr (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played just 48% of snaps last week.
Cleveland Browns
Denzel Ward/Cameron Mitchell (CB): Ward suffered a rib injury after 68% of snaps last week, Mitchell came in for him and played an additional 12% of snaps. Ward is “day to day” so he should be good for this week as a SOLID option. I would skip Mitchell as a backup plan if Ward is inactive this week.
Greg Newsome (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played just 42% of snaps last week. He left early due to a shoulder injury but is also considered “day-to-day” so he should be OK for this week.
Martin Emerson (CB): SOLID, he played 72% of snaps last week.
Chiefs at Panthers
Outlook: It’s another lower total here at just 41 points with Kansas City favored by 11.5 points, suggesting a blood bath. Kansas City is within the top ten for passing offense while Carolina is the 4th-worst in passing yards per game across the entire league. Carolina is within the top third of the league for targeting their wide receivers while Kansas City is within the worst third of the league for this ranking but has improved with the addition of DeAndre Hopkins and the return of Juju Smith Schuster.
It will be “deeper leagues only” for Trent McDuffie and our Kansas City options as their defense will likely annihilate this struggling Carolina team and dominate offensive time of possession by a crap load. We can fire up our Carolina corners in medium to deeper leagues and be in a good position for Week 12.
Kansas City Chiefs
Trent McDuffie (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Nazeeh Johnson (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week and has been the second starting cornerback for Kansas City two weeks in a row now. We can probably trust it now that we’ve seen it two weeks consecutively, especially with six teams on bye this week.
Chammari Conner (CB/S): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 73% of snaps last week.
Carolina Panthers
Mike Jackson (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps the last time we saw him (bye last week). It’s not ideal but I do like Jackson and Horn as “close to ideal” starts this week against an angry Kansas City team coming off of a loss that should dominate this Carolina team completely, especially when it comes to offensive time of possession. Availability is the best ability and I would think Horn and Jackson are in for a long day at the office in Week 12.
Jaycee Horn (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps the last time we saw him. See the above note under Jackson, this is close to IDEAL.
Dane Jackson/Chau Smith-Wade (CB): After Smith-Wade saw some decent playing time a few weeks ago, it was Jackson who played 69% of snaps in Week 10. This third corner slot has been fluctuating all season long, with no change recently, I’ll shout it out when we’ve got something we can trust with this slot. SIT them both for now.
Vikings at Bears
Outlook: It’s another possible defensive struggle here with just 40.5-points for the early total and Minnesota favored by five. Minnesota is within the top third of the league for passing offense while Chicago is now the third-worst team in the league for passing yards per game. Both teams are within the middle of the pack for targeting their wide receivers. We can fire up our normal options in medium to deeper leagues and be in a good position for this matchup.
Minnesota Vikings
Byron Murphy (CB): SOLID, he played 95% of snaps last week.
Stephon Gilmore (CB): SOLID, he played 92% of snaps last week.
Shaq Griffin (CB): SIT, he only played 39% of snaps last week.
Josh Metellus (CB/S): SOLID, he played 75% of snaps last week.
Chicago Bears
Jaylon Johnson (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Kyler Gordon (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 76% of snaps last week.
Tyrique Stevenson/Terrell Smith (CB): SIT them both. The fallout from Tyrique “acting crazy during the Washington game” continued last week as he only played 59% of snaps while Smith was in for 41% for the second week in a row. We can’t trust either at the moment and we’ll wait for the dust to settle before making any recommendations for either player.
Titans at Texans
Outlook: The early over/under for this one sits at 42.5 points with Houston favored by 8. Tennessee is the second-worst passing attack in the league and only targets their wide receivers among the worst third of the league, it will be deeper leagues only for our Houston options this week.
For the reverse, we can fire up our Tennessee options in leagues of all sizes against this Houston passing attack that is within the top third of the league overall and is the 7th best team in terms of wide receiver targets. Not to mention they just got Nico Collins back so these rankings should improve for them pretty quickly.
Tennessee Titans
L’Jarius Sneed/Jarvis Brownlee (CB): Sneed was inactive once more last week, so we got Brownlee once again, as is tradition. He played 99% of snaps last week as the Sneed replacement and would be SOLID this week if Sneed is inactive again. If Sneed can play he would be SOLID, normally ideal in a matchup like this, but likely wouldn’t play all his normal snaps the first week back from a month-plus injury.
Roger McCreary (CB): SOLID, he played 63% of snaps last week and his playing time won’t be perfect this week either, but the matchup is, so that helps some.
Chidobe Awuzie/Darrell Baker Jr (CB): Awuzie is still on IR at the time of writing but if he can play he would be SOLID, very risky, in his first game back from a multi-week injury. Baker was the replacement again last week and played 99% of snaps. If Awuzie is inactive again/isn’t activated from IR then Baker would be SOLID again this week.
Houston Texans
Derek Stingley (CB): SOLID, he played 89% of snaps last week and then sat due to the blowout.
Kamari Lassiter/Ka’Dar Hollman (CB): Lassiter was inactive last week due to a concussion but should be back this week, he normally plays every snap. If he’s unable to clear concussion protocol this week then we’ve seen Hollman as his replacement a couple of times now so it appears trustworthy. SOLID for Lassiter, SOLID deeper leagues only for Hollman if Lassiter is out again.
No significant third CB option
Lions at Colts
Outlook: We’ve got a beautiful 49 points for the early total with Detroit favored by a touchdown. Indy with Anthony Richardson under center is among the worst passing offenses in the league and wide receiver targets are few and few between with AR as well. It will be deeper leagues only for our Detroit options this week. Not to mention we could see our Detroit corners sitting late in this one (blowout rest) as they’ve been blasting inferior opponents all season long.
For the reverse, Detroit is within the middle of the pack for passing offense, yards per game, and within the worst third of the league for targeting their wide receivers. That tracks, their run game is so dominant, and their offense so excellent that they’re rarely in a negative game script or forced to pass when they don’t feel like it. We can fire up our Indy options in medium to deeper leagues to split the difference between this prolific Detroit offense and their tendency to not pass as much as we would like them to.
Detroit Lions
Carlton Davis (CB): SOLID, he played 60% of snaps last week and then sat due to that epic blowout of Jacksonville.
Terrion Arnold (CB): SOLID, he played 94% of snaps last week.
Brian Branch (CB/S): SOLID, he played 94% of snaps last week.
Amik Robertson (CB): SIT, he did play 50% of snaps last week but typically only played around 30% of snaps and likely got some extra run in garbage time against Jacksonville.
Indianapolis Colts
Kenny Moore (CB): IDEAL, he played 96% of snaps last week and hasn’t been under his projection since Week 7!
Jaylon Jones (CB): IDEAL, he played 100% of snaps last week and has been smashing his projection all season long.
Samuel Womack (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 78% of snaps last week.
Patriots at Dolphins
Outlook: The early total for this divisional matchup sits at 44 points with Miami favored by a touchdown. New England is the worst passing attack in the league, yards per game, while Miami is within the worst third of the league but improving as they stack weeks of “healthy Tua & Tyreek.” New England only targets their wide receivers within the worst third of the league.
It will be “deeper leagues only” for our Miami corners this week and “medium to deeper leagues” for Christian Gonzalez and our New England options.
New England Patriots
Christian Gonzalez (CB): IDEAL, he played 100% of snaps last week and will have his hands full with Tyreek and Waddle this week.
Jonathan Jones (CB): SOLID, he played 63% of snaps last week and likely got some blowout rest.
Marcus Jones (CB): SOLID, he played 85% of snaps last week.
Marco Wilson (CB): SIT/blast out the airlock, he was released by New England earlier this week.
Miami Dolphins
Jalen Ramsey (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Kader Kohou (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Kendall Fuller/Storm Duck/Cam Smith (CB): Fuller was inactive with a concussion last week but should clear protocol and be good to go for this week, he will be SOLID and should play the majority of snaps. It was Storm Duck and not Cam Smith as the replacement last week, so we won’t be trusting any Miami backup cornerbacks any time soon after a rug pull like that.
Bucs at Giants
Outlook: The early total for this one sits at 43 points with Tampa Bay favored by a field goal. We could maybe get Mike Evans back this week which would certainly help Tampa Bay improve their 7th overall passing attack and top third of the league wide receiver targets ranking. They’ve been great even without him in terms of those rankings and it will be “leagues of all sizes” for our New York options in Week 12.
For the reverse, it will be “medium to deeper leagues” so split the difference between New York’s passing offense being within the worst third of the league but their number one overall wide receiver targets ranking. Tommy Devito is getting the nod at quarterback this week so it’s definitely more towards the “deeper leagues” in those “medium to deeper leagues”.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Jamel Dean (CB): SOLID, if healthy, if he’s inactive then just skip it. It will be Tommy Devito and the Giants not the reincarnation of the 1967 Oakland Raiders. He is likely to return from IR this week from what I’ve read.
Zyon McCollum (CB): SOLID, if healthy, if he’s inactive then just skip it. Josh Hayes would likely be the preferred replacement corner based on what we’ve seen recently if this does come to pass and you need a warm body.
All others (CB): SIT, we’ve had names such as Josh Hayes and Tyrek Funderburk as replacement corners for Tampa Bay recently but after their bye week it looks like we are poised to have the starters return. Tykee Smith is technically their third corner but is a safety in every platform I use.
New York Giants
Deonte Banks (CB): SOLID, close to ideal, he played 90% of snaps the last time we saw him (bye week last week). The only hiccup here is that he’s been benched mid-game a couple of times already this season, the matchup is beautiful, particularly if Evans can play, but Banks is hard to trust with that IDEAL label.
Cor’Dale Flott (CB): SOLID, he played 85% of snaps the last time we saw him.
Andru Phillips (CB): SOLID, he played 83% of snaps the last time we saw him.
Cowboys at Commanders
Outlook: The early total for this divisional matchup is 45 points with Washington favored by 9.5 points. We can fire up our Dallas corners in leagues of all sizes against a very good Washington offense that is within the middle of the pack for passing offense, same for wide receiver targets, but is desperate for a win after losing two straight and gets a horrendous Dallas team in Week 12.
For the reverse, it will be “deeper leagues only” for our Washington corners against a backup quarterback and a hobbled CeeDee Lamb. Dallas hasn’t shown the ability to produce any meaningful passing offense with Cooper Rush under center.
Dallas Cowboys
Trevon Diggs (CB): SOLID, he played 97% of snaps last week.
Jourdan Lewis (CB): SOLID, if healthy, he was inactive last week but typically plays 80-90% of snaps.
DaRon Bland/Caelan Carson (CB): Bland did not return from IR this past week and we typically see Carson when that’s the case. Carson only played special teams snaps last week so it appears he has fallen out of favor as a replacement corner in Dallas, he’s a SIT from now on. If Bland can play he would be SOLID, deeper leagues only due to reinjury risk and them likely easing him back into the lineup. We got the rug pulled out from under us with Carson last week, my apologies for that, I didn’t see anything noting that he’d fallen out of favor in Dallas. When this happens we just take the lesson in stride and add the corner who got yanked to our “blast out the airlock/never recommend again” list, welcome to that list, Caelan Carson.
Josh Butler (CB): With Carson apparently benched and Lewis inactive last week, plus Bland not having returned yet, Butler played 95% of snaps as the other wide corner across from Trevon. We probably won’t run into this exact scenario again this season, but if all those above players are inactive again at any point, that’s when we get Butler. He’s a SIT for now. Bland should be available this week, and Lewis as well.
Washington Commanders
Benjamin St Juste (CB): SOLID, he played 72% of snaps last week.
Mike Sainristil (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Quan Martin (CB/S): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Noah Igbinoghene (CB): SOLID, he played 80% of snaps last week.
Broncos at Raiders
Outlook: It’s another likely defensive battle here with just 41.5 points for the early total with Denver favored by a field goal. Las Vegas is among the middle of the pack for passing offense while Denver is within the worst third of the league. Denver is a top-ten team for targeting their wide receivers while Vegas is within the middle of the pack. We can fire up our normal options in our “medium to deeper leagues” and be looking decent it would seem.
Denver Broncos
Patrick Surtain (CB): SOLID, he played 78% of snaps and then sat due to the blowout last week.
Riley Moss (CB): SOLID, he played 92% of snaps last week and then got to rest due to the blowout.
JaQuan McMillian (CB): SOLID, he played 90% of snaps last week but typically only sees around 80% of snaps on average.
Las Vegas Raiders
Nate Hobbs/Decamerion Richardson (CB): Hobbs was inactive last week with an ankle injury that had him carted off the field. We probably won’t be seeing him again anytime soon. Richardson played 97% of snaps and is the preferred replacement according to the depth chart. If Hobbs is inactive again this week then Richardson would be SOLID but very risky, I’d just skip it if it were my team. We’ve only seen it once so it’s really only a desperation play at this point.
Jakorian Bennett/Darnay Holmes (CB): Jakorian suffered a shoulder injury after only 3% of snaps, if he’s inactive then it would appear that Holmes is his replacement. I trust it zero percent, we’ve only seen it once, and with all three corners injured here in Las Vegas, we saw “inception levels” of backups against Miami. If we’re missing two starting Las Vegas corners this week we’ll probably get Holmes, if we’re just missing one then we’re probably just getting Richardson. That’s just a guess though. Bennett would be SOLID if healthy, SIT Holmes for now unless you are truly desperate and Bennett/Hobbs are inactive again this week.
Jack Jones (CB): Jones suffered a back injury after 85% of snaps last week, it doesn’t seem serious so he would be a SOLID option this week and he usually plays the majority of snaps.
49ers at Packers
Outlook: We’ve got a massive 48 points with Green Bay favored by 1.5 points for this matchup, that’s pretty much exactly what we’re looking for. Both teams are within the top ten for passing offense (yards per game). Both teams are within the middle of the pack for targeting their wide receivers. We can fire up everyone with a pulse in this matchup and hope for the shootout that Vegas thinks we’re getting. This is the best matchup so far for Week 12. I will have a metric ton of Ward, Lenoir, Nixon, and possibly Renardo Green going this week.
San Francisco 49ers
Chavarious Ward/Isaac Yiadom (CB): Ward was inactive again last week due to personal reasons, Yiadom was his direct replacement and played 82% of snaps. Ward should be back this week and would be IDEAL in this matchup as a massively productive corner that plays every snap. If he’s inactive again then Yiadom would be a SOLID option.
Deommodore Lenoir (CB): IDEAL, he played 98% of snaps last week.
Renardo Green (CB): SOLID, green saw a bump up to 93% of snaps without Ward last week but typically plays around 80% of snaps.
Green Bay Packers
Keisean Nixon (CB): SOLID, he played 99% of snaps last week.
Eric Stokes (CB): Stokes was healthy last week but only played 6% of snaps even with Jaire Alexander exiting this one early. We can safely blast him out the airlock (SIT), if he’s not getting enough playing time with Green Bay down a 100% of snaps starter then he never will. He’s going on the list!
Jaire Alexander/Carrington Valentine (CB): Jaire left with a knee injury to the same knee he’s been having issues with recently, it’s being described as “going to be OK” so he should be fine for this week as a SOLID option that plays the majority of snaps. Valentine was the replacement last week and played 89% of snaps, if Jaire is inactive this week then he becomes a SOLID option in deeper leagues.
Cardinals at Seahawks
Outlook: The early total for this divisional matchup is 48.5 points with Seattle favored by one point. That’s also pretty good! We can fire up our Arizona corners against this Seattle passing attack that is the best across the entire league in yards per game and targets their wide receivers the 6th most in the league.
For the reverse, it will be “medium to deeper leagues” for our Seattle corners against this run-first Arizona team that is within the middle of the pack for passing offense and within the worst third of the league for wide receiver targets. They may need to pass a bit more than usual against this solid Seattle offense, that’s my hope at least.
Arizona Cardinals
Sean Murphy Bunting/Max Melton (CB): Bunting was in for 67% of snaps the last time we saw him (bye week last week) while Melton kept a role even with Bunting returning from injury with 62% of snaps. This slot is in flux, neither option is safe currently. SIT them both and we’ll readjust after the dust settles. Arizona smashed the Jets in that game so one of these corners saw garbage time snaps on top of that, I’m betting it’s Melton but we won’t know for sure without more data. If you’re desperate my guess is Bunting is the main option here, Melton saw garbage time snaps. I did try and find some news or beat writer updates for this and nadda, hence why I’m recommending we sit on it another week to see which way this goes.
Starling Thomas (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 71% of snaps the last time we saw him.
Garrett Williams (CB): SOLID, he played 86% of snaps the last time we saw him.
Seattle Seahawks
Devon Witherspoon (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Tariq Woolen (CB): SOLID, he played 97% of snaps last week.
Josh Jobe (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played just 52% of snaps last week and has come back down to earth with his production as well. That tracks, you can’t be a Kenny Moore-level corner without the Kenny Moore-level playing time.
Coby Bryant (CB/S): Bryant is a safety incorrectly designated as a cornerback in several places. He played 100% of snaps last week and would be IDEAL if Rayshawn Jenkins doesn’t return this week. Bryant is the Jenkins replacement and would go back to the bench if and when Jenkins returns from IR. That could be any week now.
Eagles at Rams
Outlook: The early total for this one sits at 47.5 points with Philly favored by a field goal. We can fire up everyone on Philly against this Los Angeles passing attack that is 8th overall and targets their wide receivers the second most overall across the league. It will be “medium to deeper leagues” for our Los Angeles corners against this Philly passing attack that is within the middle of the pack overall but is second worst across the league for wide receiver targets. The likely shootout may help us a bit with those factors and our Los Angeles corners in Week 12.
Philadelphia Eagles
Darius Slay (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Quinyon Mitchell (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Cooper DeJean (CB): SOLID, he played 97% of snaps last week.
Los Angeles Rams
Darious Williams (CB): SOLID, he played 100% of snaps last week.
Cobie Durant (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 54% of snaps last week against a run first pass last Patriots team so that tracks. He is healthy.
Akhello Witherspoon (CB): SIT, while he did play 58% of snaps last week he’s normally a member of the practice squad and it’s completely random (from what I’ve seen) as to when he’ll be promoted from the practice squad and play meaningful snaps.
Ravens at Chargers
Outlook: To round out Week 12 we’ve got a 47-point early total with Baltimore favored by a field goal. We can fire up all our Los Angeles options against this Baltimore passing attack that is the third-best in the league and targets their wide receivers among the middle of the pack.
For the reverse, it will be “medium to deeper leagues” for our Baltimore corners against this Los Angeles passing attack that is within the middle of the pack and targets their wide receivers within the worst third of the league. They have been improving in both yards per game and wide receiver targets in the past month or so, the rankings haven’t fully caught up to this trend yet.
Baltimore Ravens
Marlon Humphrey (CB): SOLID, he played 94% of snaps last week.
Brandon Stephens (CB/S): SOLID, he played 77% of snaps last week but should see more against a Chargers team that has been airing it out more often in the past six weeks or so.
Nate Wiggins (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 79% of snaps last week and typically plays the least of the Baltimore corners weekly.
Los Angeles Chargers
Elijah Molden (CB/S): SOLID, he played 89% of snaps last week.
Kristian Fulton (CB): SOLID, he played 78% of snaps the first week back from IR and should continue to play more each week until he’s back to his usual 100% of snaps or close to it.
Tarheeb Still (CB): SOLID, deeper leagues only, he played 70% of snaps last week.
Cam Hart/Ja’Sir Taylor (CB): SIT them both. With Fulton back from injury and Molden having now solidly claimed a starting role these are the two corners left out in the cold to play 51% and 50% of snaps respectively last week. Cam Hart also got a concussion last week so it’s likely he’ll be inactive this week anyway.
Byes this week: Falcons, Bills, Bengals, Jaguars, Saints, Jets
Week 12 at a Glance:

I typically identify the best matchups and then the best options within those matchups to find my favorite streaming options each week. I want to help you learn to fish, not just give everyone a fish. Good luck this week!
*If you see player/player that means starter/direct replacement*

Kenny Moore, Jaylon Jones
Christian Gonzalez
Chavarious Ward, Deommodore Lenoir
