Johny The Greek's Cornerback Corner: Week 1
What are the best CB options for IDP fantasy football leagues in Week 1?
Welcome to Johny the Greek’s Cornerback Corner, the only place (that I know of) across the planet where we track every single IDP cornerback option every week all season long. If they’ve got a pulse and log snaps we’ll have a start/sit call on them and what league size/format they make the most sense in for all 96 starting cornerbacks across the entire NFL every week this season.
We will be skipping the usual Week 1 primer this season. This is year five of writing this article, and most of you already know the drill by now. However, if you’re new to the world of cornerback streaming or if any of this reads like hieroglyphics, then please read the 2023/24 season’s Week 1 edition, which is essentially a “primer” on all aspects of IDP cornerback streaming. I also did a quick (15 minutes or so) audio primer on my Substack that accomplishes this same task. Either option should help catch you up to speed if any of this doesn’t make sense.
NEW for this season! Check out the “at a glance” section at the end of the article if you’re short on time and looking for the best options right before kickoff!
Weekly Transparency Thread
Starting in Week 2 you’ll start seeing weekly transparency and the results of the previous week’s start/sit calls. See above for a good idea of what this looks like.
Ravens at Chiefs
Outlook: While this rematch of last season’s AFC title game has a 46.5-point over/under, the previous meeting ended 17-10. Last season, the Chiefs ranked 6th in passing offense but 21st in targeting their wide receivers, while the Ravens ranked 21st in passing offense and 24th in targeting wide receivers. Mahomes was 3rd in completed passes last season, while Lamar was 17th. Despite some potential streaming value, this could be a low-scoring, defensive battle.
Baltimore Ravens
Marlon Humphrey (CB): Humphrey is reliable and should play nearly every snap. He’s a solid streaming option for deeper leagues in Week 1.
Brandon Stephens (CB): Like Humphrey, Stephens has consistent snap counts and is a deeper league streaming option for Week 1.
Nate Wiggins (CB): While Wiggins could start eventually, betting on a rookie cornerback starting Week 1 isn’t advisable.
Arthur Maulet (CB): The third corner slot in Baltimore was low-value last season, and Maulet isn’t worth starting in Week 1.
Kansas City Chiefs
Trent McDuffie (CB): Despite a tough matchup, McDuffie is an elite IDP cornerback and should be a set-and-forget starter in all formats.
Nazeeh Johnson/Jaylen Watson (CB): This spot remains uncertain, and neither is worth starting until we see clearer snap counts.
Chammari Conner (CB): Even as cornerback three, Conner’s role likely won’t be impactful. Sit him for Week 1 and reevaluate after.
Packers at Eagles
Outlook: The Packers (12th in passing offense) and Eagles (16th) kick off Week 1 with a 48.5-point over/under. Last season, Green Bay targeted their wide receivers the 8th most, while the Eagles ranked 16th. Jordan Love ranked 8th in completions, with Jalen Hurts at 11th. This matchup has solid streaming potential for Week 1.
Green Bay Packers
Eric Stokes (CB): Stokes is likely to reclaim his starting role, but it’s uncertain. Sit him in Week 1 until snap counts clarify his usage.
Jaire Alexander (CB): Jaire is a lock for full snaps and is a solid streaming option in leagues of all sizes for Week 1.
Keisean Nixon (CB): Nixon should see about 80% of snaps and is a deeper league stream. In leagues that score return yards, Nixon becomes a strong play given his impressive return stats.
Philadelphia Eagles
Darius Slay (CB): Slay is a reliable “set and forget” starter with full-time snaps, making him a strong play for Week 1 against Green Bay.
Kelee Ringo (CB): Ringo is projected to take over the starting role, but it’s speculative. Sit him Week 1 until his snap count solidifies.
Quinyon Mitchell (CB): The rookie corner isn’t likely to be relevant in Week 1. Sit him and reassess based on snap counts in future weeks.
Steelers at Falcons
Outlook: With new quarterbacks and offensive coordinators for both teams, last season’s stats don’t offer much insight. The game’s 40.5-point over/under suggests a low score, with limited fantasy value outside of Pittsburgh’s cornerbacks.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Joey Porter Jr (CB): Porter is a full-time starter and is likely to cover Drake London in Week 1. He’s a strong streaming option across all league sizes despite the unfavorable matchup.
Donte Jackson (CB): Jackson, a new addition from Carolina, should be a full-time starter. However, he’s best suited as a deeper league option for Week 1 due to uncertainty and the matchup.
Grayland Arnold (CB): As the third corner, Arnold is projected to play around 40% of snaps, which isn’t enough to warrant a start. Sit him in Week 1 and reassess after seeing snap counts.
Atlanta Falcons
AJ Terrell (CB): Terrell is locked in as a full-time starter but faces a tough matchup. He’s a deeper league streaming option for Week 1.
Clark Phillips (CB): With Okudah gone, Phillips is expected to step into a significant role. Stream him only in deep leagues for Week 1.
Dee Alford (CB): Alford is likely the third corner, but limited playing time and a poor matchup make him a sit for Week 1.
Cardinals at Bills
Outlook: With Kyler Murray healthy, this game could be a high-scoring affair. The 48.5-point over/under suggests a potential shootout. While the Cardinals’ 2023 passing stats are irrelevant due to Murray’s absence, the Bills had the 8th overall passing offense last season. Expect this matchup to offer good fantasy value for Week 1.
Arizona Cardinals
Max Melton (CB): Although Melton has solid draft capital, betting on a rookie starting Week 1 is risky. Sit him and wait to see if he secures a significant role.
Sean Murphy Bunting (CB): As a seasoned veteran and likely starter, Murphy Bunting is the safest option in Arizona’s secondary. He’s a solid streaming pick for Week 1 in medium to deeper leagues.
Garrett Williams (CB): Williams played around 60% of snaps as the third corner last season, which isn’t enough for reliable production. Sit him in Week 1 and reevaluate based on his usage.
Buffalo Bills
Taron Johnson (CB): Johnson is an elite IDP cornerback and a weekly starter in all formats. He’s a strong play for Week 1.
Rasul Douglas (CB): Douglas is a consistent producer who plays every snap. He’s another “set and forget” option for Week 1 across all league sizes.
Christian Benford (CB): Benford is listed as the third corner, but the role has been inconsistent. Sit him in Week 1 until his position is confirmed, and opt for safer alternatives.
Titans at Bears
Outlook: The Bears’ revamped offense kicks off against a Titans team that struggled in the passing game last year (29th overall), targeting wide receivers the 28th most. With additions like Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd, hopes are high that Will Levis will boost Tennessee’s passing attack in his second year. While last season’s rankings are irrelevant due to Chicago’s overhaul, the 43.5-point over/under hints at a decent scoring game. There are solid streaming options here, though better matchups exist for Week 1.
Tennessee Titans
Chidobe Awuzie (CB): Awuzie, a longtime starter in Cincinnati, should play significant snaps but is more of a deep-league stream for Week 1.
L’Jarius Sneed (CB): Sneed remains a top IDP cornerback and is a must-start in leagues of all sizes. Despite the mediocre matchup, Sneed is reliable.
Roger McCreary (CB): McCreary consistently produces strong IDP numbers despite only playing 80-90% of snaps. He’s a “set and forget” option in Week 1 across all formats.
Chicago Bears
Tyrique Stevenson (CB): Stevenson is a dependable, full-time starter and should be started in all leagues. While the matchup isn’t ideal, he’s a strong Week 1 play.
Jaylon Johnson (CB): Johnson is a top-tier real-life cornerback but less productive in IDP. He’s a better fit for All-22 leagues but is a decent streaming option for Week 1.
Kyler Gordon (CB): Gordon has a history of productive IDP play despite limited snaps. He’s a solid Week 1 streaming option, expected to play around 80% of snaps, with potential for more.
Patriots at Bengals
Outlook: This game features two teams with different season expectations, reflected in the Bengals’ -9 spread. With a low over/under of 42.5 points, this could be a defensive battle. Most points are expected from Cincinnati, making it a great week to start Patriots corners while avoiding Bengals players unless in very deep leagues.
New England Patriots
Christian Gonzalez (CB): Despite limited games last season, Gonzalez’s impressive play makes him a top IDP option. He’s a “set and forget” start for Week 1, likely playing every snap and positioned for a big performance.
Jonathan Jones (CB): Jones has been consistent but had fluctuating playing time in past seasons. He’s a streaming option for Week 1, with potential for more consistent snaps under new leadership.
Marcus Jones (CB): Marcus Jones missed last season due to injury but has shown a knack for splash plays and returns. Stream him in Week 1 only if your league counts return yards; otherwise, wait to see his snap count before trusting him.
Cincinnati Bengals
Cam Taylor Britt (CB): Britt should see full playing time, but with a poor matchup, he’s only a streaming option for Week 1 in very deep leagues.
DJ Turner (CB): Turner is likely Awuzie’s replacement, but with uncertainty around his role and a tough matchup, sit him in Week 1 and reassess later.
Mike Hilton (CB): Hilton is typically productive despite limited snaps (80-90%). Known for blitzing, he’s a high-risk, high-reward play in deep leagues. For Week 1, he’s best avoided, though he remains a season-long “set and forget” option.
Texans at Colts
Outlook: With a 48.5-point over/under and the Texans favored by 2.5, this divisional matchup is expected to be high-scoring and tightly contested. Indoors, with plenty of passing, this game offers strong IDP value, particularly for Colts options against a potent Texans attack.
Indianapolis Colts
Kenny Moore (CB): One of the best IDP cornerbacks available. He’s a “set and forget” starter for the entire season, including Week 1.
Juju Brents (CB): Brents was impressive last season before getting injured but reclaimed his starting role upon returning. He’s a solid streaming option in Week 1, with borderline “set and forget” potential.
Jaylon Jones (CB): While Jones is projected to start, there’s some uncertainty due to last season’s rotating roles at this spot. It’s better to sit him in Week 1 unless you’re desperate, as the matchup is ideal, but his playing time is not guaranteed.
Houston Texans
Derek Stingley (CB): Stingley should play every snap and is a good streaming option despite facing a quarterback who runs more than he throws.
Kamari Lassiter (CB): With no proven track record and only speculation supporting his role, it’s best to sit Lassiter until his snap count and role are confirmed.
Desmond King (CB): King offers “boom or bust” potential with inconsistent playing time, but he’s worth streaming in Week 1 due to his big-play ability, especially in deeper leagues. (Update: With King being cut since I originally wrote this article, he’s an “avoid” in all leagues until further notice.)
Jaguars at Dolphins
Outlook: With a 49.5-point over/under and Miami favored by just 3.5 points, this matchup promises plenty of action. Expect a close game with lots of passing and scoring opportunities, making it a goldmine for cornerback streaming options. Both teams have some strong plays for Week 1.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Tyson Campbell (CB): Campbell is a proven, every-snap player who has consistently delivered solid production. He’s a “set and forget” starter for Week 1, especially with this favorable matchup.
Ronald Darby (CB): Although Darby is projected to be a full-time starter, this is still speculative based on offseason depth charts. Given the uncertainty, it’s safer to sit him in Week 1 despite the appealing matchup.
Darnell Savage (CB/S): Depending on your league, Savage may be listed as a safety, but if he’s classified as a cornerback, he’s a decent streaming option in deeper leagues. His starting experience and potential role make him worth a look.
Miami Dolphins
Jalen Ramsey (CB): While Ramsey is still an every-snap player, his production has dipped since joining Miami. He’s best viewed as a streaming option for Week 1, especially with better options available.
Kader Kohou (CB): Kohou has been a reliable streaming option and continues to offer value, making him a solid play for Week 1.
Kendall Fuller (CB): Fuller has been consistent throughout his career, and his transition to Miami hasn’t changed that. He’s a strong streaming candidate for Week 1 and should deliver in this high-scoring environment.
Panthers at Saints
Outlook: This low-scoring divisional matchup features a 39.5-point over/under with the Saints favored by 4. Las Vegas projects a defensive slugfest with limited scoring, primarily coming from New Orleans. This setup puts the Saints’ cornerbacks in a tough spot, as they’ll rely on splash plays rather than a consistent tackle floor. On the Carolina side, we could see extra snaps for their corners, making them more appealing plays in Week 1.
Carolina Panthers
Jaycee Horn (CB): Horn is an every-snap player when healthy and has shown flashes of being a reliable IDP option. He’s a solid streaming choice for Week 1 given the potential for extra snaps and his ability to produce when active.
Dane Jackson (CB): Jackson’s role is uncertain as he joins Carolina from Buffalo. Last season, only the CB1 slot had significant playing time in this defense. With so much unknown, it’s best to sit him in Week 1 and re-evaluate after we see how the Panthers deploy their corners.
Troy Hill (CB): Hill is a veteran presence but falls into the same category as Jackson—his playing time is a question mark. Given the lack of clarity on Carolina’s cornerback usage, it’s wise to sit Hill in Week 1 and adjust based on how the snaps shake out.
New Orleans Saints
Paulson Adebo (CB): Adebo is a consistent every-snap player who was highly productive last season. The only downside is the unfavorable matchup in Week 1. He’s a “set and forget” option for the season, but for this week, he’s best viewed as a streaming choice in medium to deeper leagues.
Marshon Lattimore (CB): Lattimore is a proven performer who has been a splash-play machine throughout his career. While the matchup isn’t ideal, his talent and consistent snap share make him a “set and forget” option for Week 1 and beyond.
Alontae Taylor (CB): Taylor was explosive last season but played fewer snaps compared to the other Saints’ corners. The combination of limited playing time and a tough matchup relegates him to a deeper-league streaming option for Week 1.
Vikings at Giants
Outlook: This outdoor matchup in New York features a 41.5-point over/under, indicating a likely defensive struggle. With Daniel Jones and Sam Darnold leading their respective offenses, we can toss both teams’ passing stats from last season out the window. Although there are some intriguing streaming options, this is a lackluster matchup.
Minnesota Vikings
Byron Murphy (CB): Murphy is expected to play every snap and has been a reliable IDP option in past seasons. While he's a “set and forget” option for the entire season, the Week 1 matchup suggests he’s better suited as a streaming option in deeper leagues.
Shaq Griffin (CB): Griffin’s role as the likely second cornerback in Minnesota makes him a viable streaming option, though the tough matchup limits his appeal. For Week 1, with the recent addition of Stephon Gilmore, it’s wise to sit both Griffin and Gilmore until their roles are clarified. The Week 1 matchup is challenging, so this isn’t a major loss.
Josh Metellus (CB/S): Metellus, who might be categorized as a safety rather than a cornerback, is a strong season-long play if he qualifies for a cornerback slot in your league. His role makes him a “set and forget” option for the season.
New York Giants
Cor’Dale Flott (CB): Flott has had inconsistent playing time and production in the past. While projected to be a full-time starter, the poor matchup and uncertainty make him a sit for Week 1.
Deonte Banks (CB): Banks has established himself as a full-time starter and is a good “set and forget” option, particularly in deeper leagues. His consistency makes him a solid choice for Week 1.
Dru Phillips (CB): Phillips is projected to be the third corner or slot corner, a role that typically doesn’t offer enough snaps for IDP relevance. Combined with the tough matchup and his inexperience, he’s a sit for Week 1.
Raiders at Chargers
Outlook: This matchup is projected to be low-scoring with a 42.5-point over/under. The Chargers have uncertainty at quarterback with Justin Herbert dealing with injuries, and the Raiders are starting Gardner Minshew. With new coaching staffs and personnel changes for both teams, last season’s stats don’t matter here. Despite having some strong individual options (Nate Hobbs, Asante Samuel Jr.), the matchup isn’t ideal, so cornerback options should be used in deeper leagues.
Las Vegas Raiders
Jack Jones (CB): After showing strong performance towards the end of last season, Jones is a solid streaming option for Week 1. He’s expected to have a significant role and can be trusted as a Week 1 starter.
Jakorian Bennett (CB): Bennett started last season but lost his job partway through. Although he's projected as a starter this season, there's uncertainty around his role. It’s safer to sit him in Week 1 until we see his actual performance.
Nate Hobbs (CB): Hobbs is a premier IDP option and a “set and forget” player. Despite the matchup, he’s a top-tier choice and should be started with confidence. He’s a consistent performer and likely to be one of the first cornerbacks drafted in IDP leagues.
Los Angeles Chargers
Asante Samuel Jr (CB): Samuel is the most reliable cornerback option for the Chargers and a “set and forget” player for the season. However, for Week 1, the matchup suggests he’s better suited for deeper leagues initially.
Kristian Fulton (CB): Recently acquired Fulton is expected to be the other starting corner alongside Samuel. He’s a solid streaming option in Week 1 but should be considered mainly in deeper leagues until his role is fully confirmed.
Ja’Sir Taylor (CB): Taylor won the cornerback three slot last season but struggled with consistency and playing time. He’s a sit for Week 1, with the potential for reassessment in future weeks based on his performance and role.
Broncos at Seahawks
Outlook: This game in Seattle has a 41.5-point over/under, suggesting a defensive battle, with Seattle favored by 5.5 points. The Broncos’ passing game is a big question mark with Bo Nix and no Jerry Jeudy, while Seattle’s passing attack should keep Denver’s cornerbacks busy. Outside of Devon Witherspoon, Seattle’s CBs should only be considered in deeper leagues.
Denver Broncos
Patrick Surtain (CB): Surtain is a top-tier, “set and forget” cornerback who should be started every week, including Week 1. He is a reliable option and in a solid matchup for this week.
Levi Wallace (CB): Wallace has experience as a starter with the Bills and Steelers, but his role with Denver is less certain. He’s a potential streaming option in deeper leagues for Week 1 but not a must-start until his role is clearer.
Jaquan McMillian (CB): McMillian has shown strong production despite less-than-ideal playing time. He’s a good streaming option for Week 1 and should be a valuable asset for most of the season.
Seattle Seahawks
Devon Witherspoon (CB): Witherspoon is a “set and forget” player and should be started every week. He had an impressive rookie season and is expected to be a top IDP cornerback this year.
Tariq Woolen (CB): Woolen is expected to be a full-time starter but has a tough matchup. He’s a streaming option for deeper leagues in Week 1 due to the unfavorable matchup.
Tre Brown/Michael Jackson (CB): Both Brown and Jackson have had fluctuating roles, with Brown projected as the third corner. Given the uncertainty and the tough matchup, it’s best to sit both for Week 1 and reassess later.
Cowboys at Browns
Outlook: This game in Cleveland has a 43.5-point over/under and is a close matchup with the Browns favored by 2.5 points. Cleveland had a middle-of-the-pack passing offense last year, while Dallas was 3rd overall. With the Browns targeting wide receivers at a middle-of-the-pack rate and Dallas being 4th in that category, this matchup presents a mixed bag. We can confidently stream Cleveland's cornerbacks and consider Dallas’ Diggs and Lewis in deeper leagues for Week 1.
Dallas Cowboys
Trevon Diggs (CB): Diggs is a reliable, “set and forget” cornerback for the season. However, due to the less-than-ideal matchup in Week 1, he’s best used as a streaming option in deeper leagues for this week.
DaRon Bland (CB): Bland is out for 6-8 weeks with a stress fracture in his foot, so he should be skipped in Week 1. Avoid streaming his replacement until we see how the snaps shake out.
Jourdan Lewis (CB): Lewis typically plays around 80% of snaps and is a streaming option in deeper leagues. Given the matchup, he should be considered a cornerback three or four for Week 1.
Cleveland Browns
Denzel Ward (CB): Ward is a strong streaming option for Week 1 and is known for his ability to generate splash plays. However, with a concussion concern and potential early retirement talks, confirm his health status before using him.
Martin Emerson (CB): Emerson should see enough snaps to be valuable for Week 1 and is a good streaming option in this matchup.
Greg Newsome (CB): Newsome is on the NFI list and is not expected to play in Week 1. He should be sat for now, with the potential for reassessment based on updates.
Commanders at Buccaneers
Outlook: This game has a 42.5-point over/under with Tampa Bay favored by 3 points. Given the potential for a blowout where Washington spends much of the game on defense, this matchup is favorable for Washington’s cornerbacks. The Bucs had a middle-of-the-pack passing offense last season but targeted wide receivers the 5th most. For Week 1, consider Washington’s options and skip Tampa Bay’s corners.
Washington Commanders
Benjamin St. Juste (CB): St. Juste is a solid “set and forget” option for both Week 1 and the season, given his consistent performance last year and expected full snap count.
Michael Davis (CB): Davis’s spotty performance and unpredictable usage last season make him a risky choice. With the excellent matchup, it’s better to sit him until his role and snap count are confirmed.
Mike Sainristil (CB): Sainristil’s role and performance are uncertain. It’s best to sit him for Week 1 and reassess based on future snap counts.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Zyon McCollum (CB): McCollum, who is expected to have a full-time role this season, is a legitimate streaming option for Week 1, but should be used in deeper leagues due to the matchup.
Jamel Dean (CB): Dean is a reliable starter who played 100% of snaps last season. However, the matchup makes him a better fit for deeper leagues as a streaming option for Week 1.
Christian Izien (CB): Izien’s limited playing time and the poor matchup make him a sit for Week 1. Adjust based on his performance and snap count in future weeks.
Rams at Lions
Outlook: This indoor matchup boasts the highest over/under of Week 1 at 51.5 points, with the Lions favored by 3.5 points. It’s expected to be a high-scoring game, making it a prime opportunity to stream cornerbacks. The Rams and Lions both had top passing offenses last season, so if the game script follows expectations, it should be an ideal setting for IDP cornerbacks.
Los Angeles Rams
Darious Williams (CB): Williams is a solid “set and forget” option who should see every snap. His return to the Rams and consistent performance in recent years make him reliable for both Week 1 and the season. Update: Williams was placed on IR today (9/5/24), avoid until further notice.
Tre’Davious White (CB): White’s history of injuries and uncertainty about his role with the Rams make him a risky choice. Sit him in Week 1 until he proves he can stay healthy and secure his spot.
Quentin Lake/Cobie Durant (CB): With uncertainty around who will start and the limited snaps available in this role last season, it’s best to sit both Lake and Durant for Week 1 and reassess after seeing the snaps.
Detroit Lions
Carlton Davis (CB): Davis is a strong “set and forget” option if he’s healthy. His consistent performance in Tampa Bay and expected full snap count make him valuable for Week 1 and beyond.
Terrion Arnold (CB): As a rookie, Arnold’s role and playing time are uncertain. Historically, rookies at cornerback often have limited snaps, so it’s best to sit Arnold in Week 1 and evaluate his role after seeing initial snap counts.
Brian Branch (CB/S): If Branch is designated as a cornerback in your league, he’s a solid “set and forget” option based on his performance last season. If he’s listed as a safety, his value in this context might be less relevant.
Jets at 49ers
Outlook: This west-coast matchup has a 44.5 point over/under, with the 49ers favored by 3.5 points. Both teams have potential value for cornerbacks. The 49ers had the 4th-best passing attack last season but targeted their wide receivers the 29th most, focusing on big plays. Despite this, Sauce Gardner and DJ Reed from the Jets are strong options who can handle this challenge. This game is a solid opportunity to stream cornerbacks for Week 1.
New York Jets
Sauce Gardner (CB): Gardner is a top-tier cornerback who will play every snap. His only downside is that he might not be targeted enough to maximize his IDP value. He's a “set and forget” option for Week 1 and the season, but best used as a cornerback two or three in medium to deeper leagues.
DJ Reed (CB): Reed will also play every snap and has been a reliable IDP option. He’s a strong “set and forget” choice for Week 1 and the entire season.
Michael Carter (CB): Carter typically sees around 80% of the snaps and is a solid streaming option for Week 1, particularly in deeper leagues due to less ideal playing time and matchup considerations.
San Francisco 49ers
Chavarious Ward (CB): Ward is a “set and forget” option, playing every snap and providing strong IDP value. He should be confidently started for Week 1 and throughout the season.
Deommodore Lenoir (CB): Lenoir is also a “set and forget” option, playing every snap and offering nearly as much value as Ward. He’s a reliable choice for Week 1 and beyond.
Isaac Yiadom (CB): Yiadom is projected as the third corner for San Francisco but hasn’t shown significant production previously. Sit him for Week 1 and reassess based on initial snap counts.

Reminder: these are only suggestions. Your lineup is your responsibility. However, these are the same moves I’m making myself in my double-digit amount of redraft leagues and another 20 or so dynasty leagues so we sink or swim together. Remember to check for inactive players before kickoff to prevent any surprise zeroes.
For any questions/comments, to discuss specific cornerback streams, or to talk IDP in general, hit up my Twitter or email me at Johnysmack3141@yahoo.com.
Good luck this week!
My apologies, I missed an update on Desmond King being cut, obviously avoid him for Week 1 and we’ll readjust afterwards. Thanks for reading!
Thank you! Keep it up!
