Rookie Mock Draft: 5 Rounds, 1 QB, PPR
Got a rookie draft coming up? We gathered members of The IDP Show team for a 1 QB mock draft to give you an idea of where the top rookies might land.
After months of analysis, the 2024 NFL Draft has come and gone, giving us a much clearer picture of how these rookies stack up. Now comes the fun part: drafting them! Where do the top IDPs go off the board? Who are the value picks in the 4th and 5th rounds? Where is the cliff when it comes to offensive talent? Let’s find out!
We gathered 12 members of The IDP Show team for a 5-round, 1 QB, PPR rookie draft with Big 3 Scoring and deep rosters. Adam and Josh also did a video reacting to this draft live as it was happening and you can view the Sleeper draftboard here.
Each drafter was kind enough to offer some rationale for each pick, which you can see below. Had your rookie draft already? Let us know your picks in the comments!
1.01 – Marvin Harrison Jr.
Let's not get cute here. You can toss around the term generational prospect if you want. (We seem to get them every year now, so are they really generational anymore?) But all that aside, the only one of the big 3 WRs that got a "great" landing spot. Pre-draft it seemed like it was down to preference between MHJ, Nabers, and Odunze for people on which one they took. Now you could argue anything else that isn't Marv at 1.01 in 1QB is negligence. - Aron
1.02 – Malik Nabers
“Janiel Dones” doesn’t scare me and will be gone in a year anyway. Nabers will be peppered with targets and easily should lead the Giants in targets, catches, yards, and TDs at receiver this season. Love his ability to create after the catch and OC Mike Kafka should be salivating to scheme for Nabers this season. - Jeff
1.03 – Rome Odunze
I love the landing spot, love the fit, and love having Caleb Williams as your quarterback. I'm not worried about the target competition because I think Keenan Allen is much closer to the end of his career than the beginning, and I think eventually Odunze will be a better wide receiver than DJ Moore. So give me the Bears’ future #1 wide receiver tethered to Caleb Williams, the best prospect we've seen in many years. - Josh
1.04 – Xavier Worthy
I heard this Patrick Mahomes guy is pretty good! The other guys on the WR depth chart don’t scare me. Hollywood Brown is a rental. Skyy Moore is a non-factor. Kadarius Toney will be gone after this season. It’ll be Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Travis Kelce in 2025. - Mike
1.05 – Brock Bowers
Bowers is the obvious choice to me here no matter how soft they think he looks. He doesn't have much of a QB this year but I expect that to change next year. - Eric
1.06 – Brian Thomas Jr.
Without a legitimate WR1 in Jacksonville, Thomas has the opportunity to see heavy targets early on. - Joey
1.07 – Ladd McConkey
Loved Ladd pre-draft, and he got the nuts landing spot in LA. I’m not worried about the run-heavy system, because Ladd is clearly the best WR there. Also, dope name. - Evan
1.08 – Keon Coleman
There are LOTS of targets to be had in Buffalo. When Josh Allen is running around doing cool stuff, he can throw it up to his new buddy, Keon Coleman, who can go get it with the best of them. - Kyle
1.09 – Caleb Williams
Even in 1 QB leagues, Williams has the talent and landing spot to be a 1st-round pick. That way, you won't have to worry about drafting QB again anytime soon. - Scott
1.10 – Jaden Daniels
QBs don’t have a ton of value in 1 QB leagues... unless they can take over like a Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson. Jayden Daniels has the arm talent to deliver big play TD volume and the legs to break fantasy scoring. At this point in the draft, it's a swing for upside, but Daniels has it in spades – Jake
1.11 – Ricky Pearsall
Pearsall didn't have a true breakout at Florida but he was close. He tested incredibly well and got 1st round draft capital. Worth it at the end of the 1st round in a 1QB league. - David
1.12 – Jonathon Brooks
With a strong WR class and so many conversations about the RB position being devalued, this is what happens: the RB1 in this class can slide to you at 1.12. If Brooks performs well in Year 1 and proves the ACL is fully recovered, he’ll be locked in as a top 6 dynasty RB. (He’s already RB12 on KeepTradeCut!) Also, I’m optimistic that Bryce Young can improve and make this a more fantasy-friendly offense. - Adam
2.01 – Trey Benson
One of the best athletes in the class at RB, in a decent landing spot. Conner has never stayed healthy for a full season in his entire career. He's also 29 and in the last year of his contract. The second-best RB in the draft gets the second-best landing spot. - Aron
2.02 – Xavier Legette
Fifth-year breakouts in college don’t scare me and I love the landing spot for Legette. He has the frame and draft capital to become Bryce Young’s go-to target over the middle. If Bryce Young is going to have success then Legette is going to be a big part of that.- Jeff
2.03 – Adonai Mitchell
As a Colts fan, I was glad to see Ballard add weapons for our young quarterback, Anthony Richardson. I would’ve loved it if we traded up, but Mitchell plus Latu is a nice consolation prize. Everything I’ve heard has Mitchell battling for Alec Pierce’s starting role, which wasn’t valuable at all last year for fantasy. (Ask me how I know.) But it sounds like Mitchell is a superior talent and I want pieces of this ascending Colts offense. - Josh
2.04 – Jermaine Burton
I heard Joe Burrow is pretty good, too! With Tee Higgins seemingly out the door after this season and Tyler Boyd already gone, I like Burton to slide into that WR2 role next year. Burton might even see some action this season. A lot of draft analysts had him as a 1st round talent who got dinged because of some character concerns. - Mike
2.05 – Jaylen Wright
Wright's speed fits in great at Miami. Mostert's eventual replacement gets to split time with Achane as soon as Mostert gets hurt. Or if Achane gets hurt. Let's be honest, both are pretty likely - Eric
2.06 – Ja’Lynn Polk
Polk is going to be a sure-handed possession receiver in an offense with a rookie QB and no WR1. He may become the defacto WR1 on the Patriots. - Joey
2.07 – Blake Corum
Corum is a solid, well-rounded RB that coaches will love. The Rams are a slept-on landing spot, as they always feed their RBs and Kyren is a risky player. Without an injury, Corum could be usable in a goal-line role. If Kyren does get hurt, Corum could become an RB1. - Evan
2.08 – MarShawn Lloyd
Yes, it's a homer pick. But Marshawn Lloyd can ball and was Daniel Jeremiah's top RB in the class. Lloyd is a huge upgrade over AJ Dillon and has big upside if Josh Jacob's is too pricey in the near future. - Kyle
2.09 – Troy Franklin
With Jeudy already gone and Sutton likely next, Franklin is in a prime position for a team that could have to rely on the passing game to catch up for the foreseeable future. - Scott
2.10 – Cooper DeJean
DeJean is a play-maker. And the Eagles will find a way. Slot. Safety. Returner. This is a reach, but I believe that much in the talent, and he ain't making it back around. High draft capital on DBs is not advocated, but outliers can exist and I think it exists with Cooper. - Jake
2.11 – Drake Maye
We don't like the landing spot, but Maye adds enough as a rusher and is a good passer in the areas of the field that defenses are making quarterbacks throw to these days. - David
2.12 – Dallas Turner
I think Laiatu Latu and Jared Verse are more ready in Year 1 but Dallas Turner has the most long-term upside of any defender in this class: 83-inch wingspan, freak athlete, good college production, great motor, and excellent background. Turner gets knocked because his advanced metrics aren’t as prolific as Latu or Verse but remember he is 2 years younger than both. Check out Latu’s PFF numbers as a freshman! Not great, huh? Verse played at Albany his first 2 years of college. Chop Robinson has the smallest sample size of the top 4, playing over 600 fewer snaps than Turner and Verse. These things should absolutely be in the back of your mind when evaluating the data and film of these EDGE prospects. - Adam
3.01 – Laiatu Latu
With Addie taking Turner, we could see a run on the edge guys here. There's a massive drop-off after Latu and Verse and I didn't think there was any way I'd get them on the way back. Latu is just so smooth in his movements and possesses the best arsenal of pass-rush moves to have an instant impact at the next level. Like Chris Ballard did on draft night, I'm sitting here chuckling saying, “I just got the best F***ING pass rusher in the draft.” - Aron
3.02 – Edgerrin Cooper
Cooper was the LB1 in college football last year according to PFF and he is the LB1 for J-E-F-F this season. He can cover and excels at the pass rush. He will send Quay to the locker room early slamming his helmet and the walls! Cooper seems to do everything well that Walker cannot. - Jeff
3.03 – Malachi Corley
Adam thought about taking Corley at 2.12, so I was happy he slid a few more spots so I could go double-homer picks like Kyle (spoilers). Corley is a manufactured-touch player in an offense with temperamental former VP candidate Aaron Rodgers at the helm. So who knows how that will go? If nothing else, I’ll sell him after an offseason of hype videos. - Josh
3.04 – Junior Colson
I feel dirty taking a Michigan guy, but he's out of college now and lands in a situation of volume thanks to nepotism. With only Denzel Perryman and Daiyan Henley as competition, I would expect Colson to have a three-down role right out of the gate and wear the dot. - Mike
3.05 – Roman Wilson
While it was REAL TEMPTIN’ to take Verse, Wilson loves to block and Pittsburgh loves WRs that block so he is going to be on the field. I like Wilson to be in Dionte Johnson’s role in the receiving game and he is more than capable of running deep routes as well. - Eric
3.06 – Jared Verse
I love the Verse landing spot and he’s currently my IDP1 rookie. The Rams now have a sneaky good and young front including Verse, Byron Young, Kobie Turner, and fellow FSU rookie Brandon Fiske. Bright defensive future with that line for the Rams. - Joey
3.07 – Ray Davis
While there are some great defensive players still on the board, offense will usually reign supreme for me. Ray Davis landed in a great situation in Buffalo. He will play a role from Day 1, as they have nobody behind James Cook. - Evan
3.08 – J.J. McCarthy
Back-to-back homer picks for me. Go Blue! McCarthy needs to develop but landed in a prime spot to do so and has big-time weapons with Jefferson, Addison, and Hockenson. - Kyle
3.09 – Chop Robinson
One of the ideal landing spots for Robinson where he will get immediate snaps and opportunities to convert some of those pressures from college into sacks in the NFL. - Scott
3.10 – Chris Braswell
Braswell has a depth chart that is very climbable. But also enough talent that he doesn't have to try and do it himself. I think in Year 1 he gets a great chance for decent volume and can secure a role for years 2-4 with a clear path. - Jake
3.11 – Ben Sinnott
Sinnott checks all the boxes you want at tight end. He’s big enough (6'4", 250 lbs) and athletic enough (4.68 40 and 6.82 3 cone). He was productive even though he started college as a fullback. These are the tight ends we want to target in dynasty. - David
3.12 – Javon Baker
Disappointed he didn’t get better draft capital but think he lands in a great spot. The WR depth chart doesn’t scare me and Drake Maye could be good. In an offense that needs playmakers, Baker should stand out. - Adam
4.01 – Devontez Walker
I couldn't get the “big body X” catching passes from Drake Maye, so I'll take the “big body X” who used to catch passes from Drake Maye. And Walker is unique in terms of receiver types they have there in Baltimore. - Aron
4.02 – Darius Robinson
I love getting 1st round draft capital in the 4th round of my drafts. Robinson can play all over the line and the Cardinals defensive line needs a major injection of talent. That is just what they got with the 6’5,” 285-pound STUD from Missouri. - Jeff
4.03 – Cole Bishop
It was between Bucky Irving and Cole Bishop here and I went with Bishop after Adam asked me not to take him. (Sorry, Addie.) The 4th round has historically been a sweet spot for safeties and I believe Bishop has starting potential in 2024, so he’s worth a shot with the 39th pick. - Josh
4.04 – Ja’Tavion Sanders
Another weapon for Bryce Young, who should be better in his second season. Sanders is athletic and can catch, and as soft as their WR depth chart is, TE is even softer. - Mike
4.05 – Tyrone Tracy
Tracy started at WR and moved to RB after transferring from Iowa to a team with an actual offense at Purdue. Still a little raw as a running back but could be the immediate 3rd down back for the Giants and should return kicks. - Eric
4.06 – Cedric Gray
Gray landed in a friendly spot where all that lays in front of him are Kenneth Murray and Jack Gibbens. With a strong camp, Gray could end up starting Week 1. - Joey
4.07 – Tyler Nubin
Tyler Nubin got great draft capital and an amazing landing spot. Hopefully he can take some of the box snaps vacated by McKinney. He had great ball production in college, so even as a deep safety, I’d be intrigued. - Evan
4.08 – Payton Wilson
I don't love the landing spot in Pittsburgh for Payton Wilson. He is a big, athletic, and versatile maniac built for IDP production. This is a bet on his talent being undeniable when he hits the field. And the 4th feels like solid value here for Wilson. - Kyle
4.09 – Byron Murphy II
Murphy is overall #24 on my big board thanks to pass rush upside and a great landing spot with solid draft capital. Playing beside Leonard Williams, he will have plenty of opportunities to make an impact early and often. I don’t think the talent is as elite but he could still have some flash week similar to what we saw from Jalen Carter last year (except with a clearer path to snaps). - Scott
4.10 – Will Shipley
While he likely won't climb to the top of the Eagles' depth chart with Saquon there, getting to RB2 on this depth chart is not a high bar to pass. Shipley also has a strong production profile from a top-level program in Clemson that includes a career 9.6% target share. It’s his ability to run between the tackles and be a relevant pass-catcher that screams upside for me. - Jake
4.11 – Jalen McMillan
McMillan had a good junior season and then got hurt as a senior, which hurt his production. He played with two other NFL receivers at Washington, which I’m willing to pretend also hurt his production. He’s good enough for me to take a chance on at the end of the 4th round. - David
4.12 – Trevin Wallace
Wallace joins 29-year-old Josey Jewell and 30-year-old Shaq Thompson at LB in Carolina. Trevin Wallace isn't one of the better tacklers in this class (career tackle rate of 11.3% at Kentucky) but he is one of the more dynamic playmakers with 10 sacks and 18 TFLs across 35 games. Does that remind you of anyone? Maybe Frankie Luvu? Wallace has a ton of upside and will be one of the better values in your rookie drafts this year. - Adam
5.01 – Javon Bullard
Green Bay is in the process of revamping their defense and Bullard got 2nd round capital. He's a great athlete and flies around the field like a piss missile. Also, I thought it'd be all rainbows and joy at 1.01, but it's been Hell because Addie has somehow been able to see my queue. - Aron
5.02 – Bo Nix
In the 5th round, I’ll take a gamble on Sean Payton repeating his success with a QB that fits his coaching style. Bo Nix is mature, athletic enough to make all the throws, and has some sneaky mobility to tuck it and run. Having his college WR in tow might not hurt either. - Jeff
5.03 – Bucky Irving
The RB I wanted in the last round is here at 5.03 – how wonderful! The depth chart ahead of Irving isn’t scary and the Tampa Bay offense might be decent so long as Baker doesn’t turn back into a pumpkin. Irving is a nice handcuff at least if Rachaad White gets hurt. - Josh
5.04 – Tyrice Knight
Pre-draft, I said about Knight: “He’ll need some seasoning in the NFL, but is worth a stash while he develops.” Well, here you go. Knight is a tackle machine and has a path to snaps in 2025 with Jerome Baker and Tyrel Dodson each on 1-year deals. Who’s game is it? With everybody sayin’:
- Mike
5.05 – Jer’Zhan Newton
Newton will only get rotational snaps this year but there is a chance Washington clears room for him next year. Slipped to the 2nd round in the NFL Draft due to a foot injury. Teams are going to regret letting him hobble down the draft board. - Eric
5.06 – Malik Washington
Washington fits in Miami perfectly. With Hill and Wadlle stretching defenses thin, Washington brings a slot presence that is sure-handed, can separate, and win at the catch point. A prolific offense that can produce many weapons and Washington only needs to beat out Braxton Berrios. – Joey
5.07 – Marshawn Keeland
The PFF numbers for Kneeland are great, and we know the Cowboys can draft EDGE players. He could be in a rotation early, but the situation should open up over the next couple years. - Evan
5.08 – Bralen Trice
There are plenty of snaps for the taking on the Falcons defensive line. Bralen Trice is a brute off the edge who generated pressure on the regular in college. There's opportunity for him to get some run early if he's ready. - Kyle
5.09 – Braelon Allen
Allen has a short path to RB2 for New York and could spell Hall and serve as a primary handcuff. Plus he is a Wisconsin RB and they know RBs up there. - Scott
5.10 – Kimani Vidal
Vidal has one of the best two-year outlooks in terms of current depth charts. An aging Gus Edwards and JK Dobbins coming off a significant injury (again). Vidal has one of the best pass protection profiles of rookies this year and that, along with bell-cow usage and strong success inside the red zone, is why he can earn playing time this year. - Jake
5.11 – Dylan Laube
Laube is in the Tarik Cohen/Nyheem Hines archetype where you just hope that you scam your way into a bunch of PPR points. - David
5.12 – Tykee Smith
DAWG ALERT! Smith has a 9.9% career tackle rate and played 94% of his college snaps on the line, in the box, or in the slot. If Tampa Bay can’t reach a long-term deal with Antoine Winfield Jr., look out folks. Even if they do, there’s a world where Smith is the new slot corner alongside Winfield and Jordan Whitehead. - Adam
