IDP Waiver Wire: Week 8
The Byemaggedon is over... hallelujah! Hopefully you survived and maybe even got a well-earned win in Week 7. With Week 8 looming, it's time to turn our attention to the waiver wire.
Well, you just have to love the person in charge of making the schedule for the NFL this season; last week 6 teams on a bye, this week 2! Hopefully, you came out of Byemaggedon healthy and with a win!
As you are fully aware, these next few weeks will be critical for teams who are 2-5 and 3-4: not out of it yet but definitely needing to string some Ws together. Hoping you find a few of these guys help your squad become relevant yet this season!
Defensive Line
Tanoh Kpassahnon, New Orlean Saints
This fifth-year pro has quietly put together a very solid season for the Saints. Tanoh Kpassahnon is currently third on the team in snaps but currently is the Saints leading scorer on the DL despite missing a game in Week 2.
As the D-Line gets healthier, especially with Marcus Davenport coming back this week, Tanoh should see less attention his way which will free him up to make some more plays. Monday night’s game is not a great measuring stick as Seattle barely had the ball for the entire second quarter.
Al-Quadin Muhammad, Indianapolis Colts
Al-Quadin Muhammad has been a key cog for the Colts defense this season. He has played more than 70% of snaps in 4 of the last 5 games. I love him going forward this season as the defense continues to gel and improve, but I especially like him this upcoming week as the Colts battle King Henry.
Tennessee has been a top 3 team this season for opposing D-Line. Sign me up!
Defensive Backs
Richie Grant, Atlanta Falcons
When Richie Grant was drafted in the second round in April, managers envisioned Grant replacing Keanu Neal once he departed for Big D. Sadly, he has not come in and completely took over. That seems to be changing as over the past few games Grant has been seeing his snaps, and production, begin to rise dramatically. Before the bye week, Grant had 3 combined tackles on 28 snaps. Last week he doubled his production to 6 combined tackles on 58 snaps (79%). Look for that trend to continue this week against Carolina and the PJ Walker-led Panthers… well, maybe not quite yet.
Anthony Averett, Baltimore Ravens
When you play opposite of Marlon Humphrey, you are bound to get some attention… and boy, has Anthony Averett seen some attention. Averett has held his own, putting up nice tackle numbers and few PDs. Averett has been a top 12 DB over the last three weeks, something very surprising for sure. What is more surprising is his low roster percentage, which is well under 10%. With Baltimore putting up points, opposing teams need to keep pace and that means passing. Something savvy fantasy football managers can take advantage of when they add Averett!
Linebackers
Ja’Whaun Bentley, New England Patriots
If you want to play a little game with league mates, challenge them to name the linebacker who is currently a high-end LB3 in many leagues and rostered in less than 8% of leagues. The answer? Ja’Whaun Bentley.
The fourth-year pro from Purdue has 40 combined tackles, 3 PDs, and a forced fumble on the season. Nothing flashy, but as we are in the midst of the bye weeks, it’s nice to find a guy you can use until his bye in Week 13!
Dre Greenlaw, San Francisco 49ers
Sometimes you just find a guy you like and it is hard to let them go. Dre Greenlaw is that guy for me. Until his Week 1 injury, Greenlaw was the Robin to Fred Warner’s Batman; the only thing many managers didn’t know is Greenlaw was much more productive than Warner and not nearly as expensive with draft capital. Greenlaw is looking to be coming off the IR soon, and with the 49ers looking like a dumpster fire on offense, the defense will be on the field often—which as you know, is great for IDP scoring. If you have a roster spot, get in on Greenlaw before your league mates.
Well, my friends, there you have it: this week’s waiver wire additions. Feel free to keep sending me those start/sit questions and trade offers @Boobam131. I really cannot get enough of them! Have a wonderful week and good luck in Week 8!
