In redraft leagues, we’re always looking to buy that lottery ticket and hit the $10 million payout. The late-round gems that can propel your team to glory.
This section of The IDP Show Draft Kit looks at those defenders who are in line for an expanded role or more opportunities to contribute. With a few exceptions, these guys are typically available later in our drafts and can exceed their current ADP or projections. So, let’s look at the breakout candidates for the 2024 season.
Lukas Van Ness, EDGE, Green Bay Packers
ADP: DL64 (EDGE46)
Lukas Van Ness is coming off a decent rookie year and is looking to build on a strong finish to his first season in the NFL.
Van Ness started out like a house of fire. In Week 1, he produced 5 QB pressures and a sack. Over the next 9 games, he’d record just 2 total QB pressures.
He’d finish the last 7 games, he’d generated 11 QB pressures and 3 sacks and4 QB hits; resulting in a 14.9 QB pressure rate. His pass-rush win rate won’t blow you away, but he has a motor and won’t stop until the whistle.
LVN is set to see an uptick in usage as he should be in rotation with Preston Smith and used in passing downs to go get the QB.
I really liked what I saw in his preseason game against the Browns. He saw 23 snaps and recorded 3 solo tackles while generating a 28.6% pressure rate; resulting in a sack and 3 hurries.
Van Ness enters his second seasons with a lot of hype and expectations. I’ve got him projected at over 600 snaps and sack of floor of 6. I think Jeff Hafley’s aggressive defensive philosophy is going have Van Ness playing more with his hand in the dirt, as opposed to a stand-up position.
