It’s one of those “Byepocolypse/Byemagedden” weeks with the Cardinals, Lions, Jaguars, Raiders, Rams, and Seahawks all on a bye week. With that in mind, I’ve put a little more focus on short-term additions this week.

We all play in leagues of varying depth—with different IDPs on the waiver wire—so I’m going to identify IDP waiver targets at each position for shallow, average, and deep leagues. I’m using data from PFF and NFL Pro. Rostership percentage (in parentheses) is from Sleeper dynasty leagues.

Let’s dive into this week’s targets.

Defensive Line

Shallow: Jonathan Greenard, EDGE, Minnesota Vikings (55%)

Jonathan Greenard’s stat sheet doesn’t fully show how disruptive he’s been this season. He has only one sack, but his 26 pressures rank 15th among all edge rushers, and his win rate of 18.3 percent is solid.

He now faces a Chargers offensive line that’s seen its share of injuries. Justin Herbert has been pressured at the second-highest rate in the league and sacked 20 times. If rookie tackle Joe Alt remains sidelined this week, Greenard could have a field day. His pressure metrics suggest positive sack regression is coming, making him a strong start this week and a great hold for the rest of the season. If Alt plays, temper expectations.

Average: Khalil Mack, EDGE, Los Angeles Chargers (33%)

Khalil Mack has returned from injury and is beginning to ramp up again. He played limited snaps in Week 7, but still got a sack, giving him 2 in the 3 games he has appeared in. He should see his workload climb as the Chargers ease him back in.

The matchup with Minnesota in Week 8 isn’t the most favorable, but it isn’t bad either. Brian O’Neill at RT is decent but Carson Wentz has also been sacked 14 times in 4 games. The matchups in weeks 9 and 11 against Tennessee and Jacksonville are great opportunities for production.

He’s a classic spike week EDGE player. Pick him up this week if you have the room before everyone starts drooling over that Tennessee game.
