Week 2 is in the books and we are slowly getting more data to help us decide who may help our teams this year. Whether you need starters, injury replacements, or potential bye week fill-ins, I’ve got you covered. We all play in leagues of varying depth—with different IDPs on the waiver wire—so I’m going to identify IDP waiver targets at each position for shallow, average, and deep leagues. Let’s dive into this week’s targets.

Defensive Back

Shallow: Tre’von Moehrig, S, Carolina Panthers

Tre’von Moehrig is flourishing in Ejiro Evero’s defense. He is getting a lot of time in the sweet spot for DBs (DL, box, slot), playing in the box 56.2% and the slot 27.3% of snaps. Playing in the sweet spot (defensive line, box, and slot) is great for defensive backs because they are closer to the ball and are more likely to be involved in more plays. Moehrig has turned that alignment into 20 tackles over the first two weeks. He has also had 5 pass rush snaps so far with 1 QB pressure.

If he can add the occasional sack or splash play, look out. I like Moehrig as a solid DB2.

Average: Chamarri Conner, S, Kansas City Chiefs

Here is another player getting plenty of run in the sweet spot. Chamarri Conner has played 78.2% of his snaps there this year and is producing results similar to Moehrig, but he is available in more leagues. Conner has 18 tackles and has hit the quarterback twice on 9 pass rushes.

We know this role for Kansas City has been great the past few years with L’Jarius Sneed and Trent McDuffie manning the position; I expect more of the same from Conner. If your league has required CB spots and has Conner listed at CB, grab him now if it isn’t already too late.

I have him listed in the average-sized leagues here because he is available in more leagues, but I would grab him in shallow leagues, too. In DB leagues, or as a safety, Conner is a solid DB2 with the potential to be a DB1.
