2024 IDP Waiver Wire: Week 3
Mike Woellert identifies the IDP targets on this week's waiver wire.
While Week 1 came in with a bit of a whimper, Week 2 left us in a wake of destruction that would have made the dual tornadoes from The Day After Tomorrow jealous. Hopefully, you didn’t spend too much of your waiver budget or your top priority last week, because after the rash of injuries this week, you’re going to need those FAAB dollars. So, as we look to Week 3, here are your IDP waiver wire targets.
Linebacker
Baylon Spector, Buffalo Bills
We had a big injury in Week 2. Terrel Bernard suffered a pectoral injury, however, it’s not as severe as feared. So, who’s Bernard’s replacement?
As of now, it appears to be Baylon Spector. Spector played well considering the situation he was thrust into. He had his share of good and bad. He stuck his nose into the backfield and was physical. He missed on a few tackles and seemed to be blocked out of plays, but every LB goes through that. Spector ended up playing in 100% of the snaps once Bernard left, and most importantly, wore the dot as the defensive playcaller.
He was credited with 5 stops (plays resulting in a negative result), a 1 TFL, and recorded a 16.4% tackle rate, resulting in 10 tackles. He had a solid PFF run grade (69.5) but struggled in coverage (42.2).
In this play, he shows off his run-stopping prowess. Notice Spector calling out what’s happening. He’s got quick feet and keeps his head up. He hits the gap where Achane is going and breaks off contact:
Be careful with Spector this week and monitor what Buffalo does with their LB situation. I think you have to go into the week thinking he could be a 1-4 week rental, so don’t unload the clip on your FAAB (5%-10%) or use a top waiver priority, unless LB is an absolute need. If he remains the green dot LB, he’s a weekly LB2 until Bernard returns.
Note: Dorian Williams is in play as a waiver pickup, as well. He has an 18.1% tackle rate in the first two weeks (19 total tackles). He played 85% of the snaps in Week 1 and 70% in Week 2. Here was his snap breakdown from Week 2:
Depending on league size, you might need to roster some guys in that 70-79% usage range.
